Description / Table of Contents: Taiwan a typical small Asian country with few energy resources is well known for its high-tech industry in the last 20 years. However as a member of the global village Taiwan feels the responsibility to reduce carbon emissions. The book tells you how Taiwan transforms itself from a high-tech island to become a low carbon island. The book address Taiwan's low-carbon developmental policies of the past 10 years, applies an econometric approach to estimate Taiwan's sector department CO2 emissions, shows how environmental change affects the economic growth of Taiwan, and provides two successful examples of low-carbon pilot regions in Taiwan. Stephen Shen, the Minister of the Environment Protection Agency of Taiwan, believes that the book arrives at the right time, because this is the time to educate the people of Taiwan, about the necessary action for achieving a low carbon society.

Description: Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is an emerging zoonotic coronavirus. First identified in 2012, MERS-CoV has caused over 2460 infections and a fatality rate of about 35% in humans. Similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), MERS-CoV likely originated from bats; however, different from SARS-CoV, which potentially utilized palm civets as its intermediate hosts, MERS-CoV likely transmits to humans through dromedary camels. Animal models, such as humanized mice and nonhuman primates, have been developed for studying MERS-CoV infection. Currently, there are no vaccines and therapeutics approved for the prevention and treatment of MERS-CoV infection, although a number of them have been developed preclinically or tested clinically. This book covers one editorial and 16 articles (including seven review articles and nine original research papers) written by researchers working in the field of MERS-CoV. It describes the following three main aspects: (1) MERS-CoV epidemiology, transmission, and pathogenesis; (2) current progress on MERS-CoV animal models, vaccines, and therapeutics; and (3) challenges and future prospects for MERS-CoV research. Overall, this book will help researchers in the MERS-CoV field to further advance their work on the virus. It also has important implications for other coronaviruses as well as viruses outside the coronavirus family with pandemic potentials.

Notes: Design for assembly (DFA) has proved its success in manufacturing to face the marketchallenge. But the assembly process parameters were rarely concerned in the design for assembly.Aimed at this problem, an algorithm for design for automated assembly of circular parts wasproposed. This algorithm can help designer to select the optimal process parameters, such asdimension tolerance of mating parts, location precision of assembly device and so on, subject tobudgetary constraints. Finally a case is employed to explain the optimal course

Notes: In this study, TiO2 was successfully coated on Stober silica beads followed by depositing Aunanoparticles on this core-shell structure. The size of the Au nanoparticles was well controlled in therange of 2 – 7 nm. This composite exhibited high thermal stability. When used as a model catalyst foroxidation of CO at low temperatures, the Au/TiO2/SiO2 showed a much higher catalytic activity thanthe Au/SiO2 and Au/TiO2(P25) catalysts

Notes: Silvered polyimide films have been prepared by alkali hydroxylation of polyimide filmsurface and incorporation of silver ions through subsequent ion exchange. Thermal curing had notonly re-cycloimidized the poly(amic acid) into polyimide, but also reduced silver ions into silveratoms and near-atomic silver clusters, which diffused and aggregated to give reflective andconductive surfaces without addition of reducing agents. By this method, silvered polyimide films canbe easily fabricated with double excellent reflective (reflectivity 〉 97%) and conductive surfaces(surface resistance: 0.02 [removed info]/sq), outstanding metal-polymer adhesion, high mechanical properties, andcontrollable thickness of silver layers at modest cost. As the side-to-side near-surface microstructuredifference in the laboratory made samples and commercial PI films, the thickness of alkali inducedhydrolysis, loading of silver ions and forming of silver layers at the two sides of the polyimide filmswere also discussed here. Films were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM),scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and tapping mode atomic force microscopy (AFM). Resultsshow that continuous silver layers were formed on the polyimide films

Notes: Abstract In this paper, a sufficient condition is given under which the smash product A#H is a transfinite left free normalizing extension of an algebra A. Moreover, the result is applied to a skew semigroup ring, a skew group ring and the quantum group U q (sl(2)) such that some properties are shown.

Notes: Phylogenetic relationships of commercial Chinese truffles and their allies were investigated mainly by morphological studies and analyses of the sequences of ITS regions of nuclear ribosomal DNA. Two species, Tuber indicum and T. himalayense, closely related to the European T. melanosporum (the Perigord Truffle), are recognized among commercial Chinese black truffles. Both T. pseudohimalayense and T. sinense should be regarded as synonyms of T. indicum. Tuber species producing excavated ascomata are not monophyletic, suggesting that excavation of ascomata may have evolved more than once, or evolved once during the evolution of truffle species and then was lost once during the evolution of Tuber species.

Notes: A procedure to combine the information from an electron micrograph (EM) and the corresponding electron diffraction (ED) pattern is proposed. Here the ED data will be used to obtain a set of amplitudes of the structure factors, while the EM will be used to obtain a set of starting phases assuming the weak-phase-object approximation. A direct method is then used to extend the phase information from a resolution of about 2 to 1 Å. The efficiency of the procedure has been verified by the test calculation on the model structure of copper perchlorophthalocyanine.

Notes: A new method is proposed to estimate the defocus (Δf) from a single electron micrograph (EM). The method has been tested by simulations using theoretical EM's calculated under different defocus conditions. The preliminary method is successful except when the EM is taken near the optimum defocus. This can be improved by making use of the information from the electron diffraction pattern. The method will be effective for radiation-sensitive materials.
