Metal Complexes with Tetrapyrrole Ligands, XXXV. - Synthesis of Further More of Less Sterically Hindered 5,15-Dialkyloctaethylporphodimethenes by Reductive Alkylation of OctaethylporphyrinatozincStarting from octaethylporphyrinatozinc [Zn(OEP), 1] unstable zinc porphodimethenes Zn(OEPR2) have been obtained by reductive alkylation and from these by demetalation with hydrochloric acid the air-stable decaalkyl-5,15-porphodimethenes 2-7 〈H2(OEPR2) R — C2H5, n- and iso-C3H7, tert-C4H9, I[CH2]4〉. The bis(4-iodobutyl) derivative 7 was transformed into the bis[4-(ethylamino)butyl]porphodimethene 8 with ethylamine and with ethylenediamine partially into the 5,15-(5,8-diaza-1,12-dodecandiyl)porphodimethene 9 which contains a twelve-membered bridge above the 5, 15-positions. For each R — C2H5, iso-C3H7, and tert-C4H9, respectively, two isomers, 3a,b,5a,b and 6a,b, were found the configuration of which was tentatively assigned. The constitutions of 2-6 were proved by IR, 1H-NMR, UV/VIS-, and mass spectra, those of 7-9 were made probable by IR and UV/VIS spectra, by transformation of 7 into 8 or 9, and by the mass spectra of 8 and 9. The 5,15-di(tert-butyl) compound 6 is interesting because of the steric hindrance exerted upon the axial ligands of its metal complexes.
Notes:
