Abstract Calculations of the ddµ formation rate were performed beyond the dipole approximation. In the temperature rangeT=25–150 K the results are in good agreement with the Vienna-PSI fusion rate data. The calculated spin flip rate is also closer to experiment than in the dipole approximation. New experiments for the verification of the finite width theory are discussed.
