Notes: Summary The ability of ants to reacting to sublethal high temperatures with production of gynandromorphs is reported for the first time. The abnormal forms produced in the pharaoh's ant range from ergatandromorphs to classical halfsidegynanders.

Notes: Summary With a new formulation, which made intravenous infusion of triamterene (TA) possible, plasma levels and urinary excretion rates of TA and its main metabolite (OH-TA-ester) were measured in a randomized, cross-over trial in 6 healthy volunteers given triamterene 10 mg i.v. and 50 mg p.o. TA and OH-TA-ester were determined by densitometric measurement of native fluorescence after thin layer chromatography. Distribution volumes of the central compartment of TA and OH-TA-ester were 1.49 l/kg and 0.11 l/kg, respectively. Terminal half-lives were 255 min for TA and 188 min for OH-TA-ester after i.v. administration. For TA total plasma clearance was 4.5 l/min and renal plasma clearance 0.22 l/kg. The formation of OH-TA-ester was very rapid and the concentration of the metabolite exceeded that of TA at all times. After i.v. administration the urinary recovery of TA and OH-TA-ester was 4.4% and 50.9%, respectively. The bioavailability of TA was 52%, corresponding to absorption of 83%. TA is partly eliminated by a first-pass-effect. The main metabolite of TA is OH-TA-ester, which is pharmacologically active.

Notes: Abstract In this paper an analysis of the Dutch bond market is made. The technique used is linear programming. Given the fact that coupon income and capital gains are taxed differently and that some investors are tax-exempt in the Netherlands, it is shown that there are overpriced bonds in the market. This is as can be expected. But it is found that there are bonds that a rational investor would never hold in his portpolio, whatever the tax rate the investor has to pay on coupon income. Given the fact that the Dutch bond market is very illiquid for some bonds, an analysis of the effects of bid-ask spreads is made. It is shown that the effect of these spreads cannot explain the existence of bonds that are overpriced. It is not clear where these remaining overpricings stem from.

Notes: Based on Enskog's dense gas theory and on Grad's method of moments, the 13-field and the five-field theories are developed for monatomic dense gases of hard spherical particles. The transport coefficients for the five-field theory are obtained from an iteration method akin to the Maxwellian procedure. The problem concerning the propagation of plane harmonic waves of small amplitude is analyzed for both theories.

Notes: An accurate thin-film thickness monitor capable of a resolution of at least 0.01 nm is described. The errors arising from the temperature dependence of the crystal resonant frequency are minimized by heating a closely matched reference crystal until their temperatures are equalized; and by subtracting their frequencies of oscillations. These functions are performed by simple electronic devices.

Notes: It is shown that the entropy principle provides a unique specific form of the radiative momentum flux. Also the nonequilibrium entropy and entropy flux of radiation thermodynamics are calculated explicitly. Waves are discussed in two limiting cases.

Notes: [Auszug] In order to find out if polyenoic acids can be synthesized by blood cells in the same way we have incubated human whole blood with acetate-1-14C. The fatty acids were isolated and the unsaturated fraction degraded by oxidative ozonolysis. The resulting dicarboxylic acids were separated by column ...
