Description / Table of Contents:
Mineralogical investigations of fouling and corrosion phenomena in industrial boilersKnowledge of mineralogy and its methods (polarisation microscopy, hightemperature microscopy, micro-chemical analysis, structural analysis by means of X rays, differential thermo-analysis and ultra-red spectroscopy) has been applied to the examination of fouling and corrosion phenomena in industrial boilers fired with coal, lignite or oil. The determination of the crystalline and amorphous phases, which occur as corroding agents or as corrosion products has made it possible to draw conclusions regarding the type and mechanism of the reactions that take place. Special attention is paid to corrosion phenomena observed on the metal and tamping clay of the fireboxes, and to the fouling and corrosion phenomena on the flue gas side of the heating surfaces. Brief reference is also made to corrosion phenomena on the water and steam sides of the pipes, and on the turbine blades.
Notes:
