Description / Table of Contents:
Summary In 1990 a subfossil breeding colony of seabirds from the 8th century on the island of Sal (Republica de Cabo Verde) was discovered. A description of the site is given, its archeogeography and -ecology is reconstructed. The bones belong to fife species of sea birds, which thence were breeding with certainty or high probability, to two species belong to a neighbouring fresh- or brackish water lagoon (Phoenicopterus roseus, Gallinula chloropus?), and to eight other accidental species. Nine species are new for Sal, one, the coot, new for the Cape Verde Islands. The site will be investigated in detail in the future.
Notes:
