Conclusions During the impregnation process of resin-bonded converter refractories with the slag, there is enrichment of the melts in the pores with iron oxides which leads to intensified chemical interaction process and accelerated destruction of the refractories. The regularities of impregnation are described by the equations of diffusion occurring in combination with a chemical reaction. The flow (spreading) of slag over the refractories obeys the laws of surface diffusion according to the multilayer mechanism. We established unique relationships between the magnitude of the effective coefficient of diffusion along the surface, the depth of impregnation, and the campaign period of the converter maintaining 11–14 wt.% absorption oil in the prepared resin.
