Notes: The life of bevel gear dies is determined by its stress state mainly. During the forging, thedie teeth fractured and the bottom corner cracked in a few times. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) wasemployed to investigate the reason of failure. The results show that the tip fracture and the bottomcorner crack mainly resulted from excessive tensile stress. In accordance with the FEA results, thenon-plane parting face was changed into plane parting face and the radius of bottom hole wasenlarged. The FEA result proves that the modification can greatly reduce stress concentration and theapplication proves that the modification can effectively solve the premature failure of the die

Notes: AlN-BN composite Powders with the microstructure of micrometer-sized AlN particlescoated with BN particles were prepared via a chemical reaction, which used a mixture of boric acid(H3BO3) and urea (CO(NH2)2) as reactants coated on the surface of the AlN particles to react innitrogen ambient. The XRD and TEM studies showed that the coating layer (BN) was composedmostly of amorphous BN particles at the reaction temperature of 850oC ~1100oC. When thecomposite powders formed into pellets using cold isostatic-pressing, then, sintered at pressurelesssintering, the relative density of the composites that contained 15wt% BN reached above 98%, andthere was homogeneous microstructure

Notes: By imposing a high frequency magnetic field, the surface quality and macro/microstructure of the direct chill cast billets are improved. The casting speed can also be improved bysimultaneous applying mold and electromagnetic coil, especially for the alloys with a wide freezingrange such as Al-Cu-Mg alloy. The extent of macrosegregation in the Al-Cu-Mg alloy is reduced byapplication of the magnetic field. Moreover, the inverse segregation layer usually observed in thedirect chill cast billet is eliminated by the effect of the electromagnetic field. The microstructure ofthe hot-rolled and heat treated billets cast under the high frequency field also show bettercharacteristics

Notes: The influence of direct current field (DCF) on powder-pack boriding has beeninvestigated by applying DCF between boriding agent and specimen during the soaking.Experimental results show that DCF has the function of heating the agent and the specimen and thusenhancing boriding. It is shown that the specimen’s side facing anode has the deepest boride casewhen the specimen is taken as cathode. It is proposed that DCF forces active boron-containingspecies to diffuse toward the specimen at the cathode. This makes boron concentration around thespecimen as cathode higher than that at the anode or other position and that in the conventionalpowder-pack boriding (CPB), which relatively decreases boron’s absorption by inner wall surfaceof the pack box and the non-working surface of the specimen. DCF’s physical effect of enhancingchemical reaction in the agent increases the activity and concentration of active boron atoms andboron-containing species, which overcomes the shortcoming that CPB can not produce enoughboron-containing species by conventional way of heating

Notes: Nanostructured Ni-Al2O3 composite coatings incorporated with various contents ofα-Al2O3 nano-particles were prepared on mild steel by using novel sediment co-deposition (SCD)technique. For the comparison reason, the pure Nickel coating and the Ni-Al2O3 composite coatingswere fabricated by means of conventional electroplating (CEP) technique. The electroplating wascarried out in Watt’s bath without any additives except for nano-α-Al2O3 suspension. The influenceof the nano-particulates concentration, current density, and the mode of electroplating on thecomposite coatings were investigated. The results reveal that the weight percent of nano-Al2O3increases with increasing nano-α-Al2O3 concentration in plating bath and some agglomerationoccurs on the surface of composite coatings. The current density affects the alumina content in thecomposite coatings as well. The nano-α-Al2O3 incorporation by the SCD technique is higher thanthat of the CEP technique. The microhardness increases, while the wear rate decreases withincreasing content of the nano-Al2O3 in the composite coatings. The incorporation of nano-α-Al2O3particles changes the surface morphology of Ni matrix and modifies the texture of compositecoating to exhibit a preferentially (111) growth orientation. Moreover, the co-deposited nano-sizedα-Al2O3 particles are uniformly distributed in the Ni matrix and contributed to remarkably increasethe microhardness, and tribological properties of the Ni base coating

Notes: Abstract the measurements of flow over non-uniform gravel open channel have been conducted with Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV). The experimental results indicate that the distribution of mean velocity agrees well with the Nikuradse's law. From the distributions of resistance coefficient, reference level and turbulence intensity, the classification of small scale roughness case is obtained.

Notes: Abstract The reflection and transmission of water waves caused by a small amplitude incident wave through finite fine porous plates with equal spacing and permeability in an infinitely long open channel of constant water depth and zero slope are studied. A special solution is obtained when the distance between the two neighbouring plates is an integral multiple of the half-wavelength of the incident wave. It is found that when the dimensionless porous-effect parameterG 0 is equal to half the total plate number, the wave dissipation reaches a maximum, and only 50% of the incident wave energy remains in the reflected and transmitted waves. Meanwhile, the reflected and transmitted waves have the same amplitude.
