Description: Sixteen former military personnel who were present at the "Smoky" atmospheric nuclear weapon test have been investigated for internal deposits of radioactivity. Whole-body and thorax gamma-ray measurements, thorax and skeletal actinide measurements, and urinalyses for plutonium-239 and strontium-90 indicated no evidence of radioactivity in excess of that found in the general population.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Toohey, R E -- Rundo, J -- Essling, M A -- Sha, J Y -- Oldham, R D -- Sedlet, J -- Robinson, J J -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1981 Aug 14;213(4509):767-8.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7256278" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: The rate of exhalation of radon by persons with long-standing radium burdens increases about twofold shortly after a meal. The increase is short-lived and "normal" values are regained in 1.5 to 2 hours. The effect may account in part for the poor reproducibility in estimates of the freely emanating part of the radium content.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Rundo, J -- Markun, F -- Sha, J Y -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1978 Mar 17;199(4334):1211-2.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/628836" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Notes: [Auszug] The total potassium content of the human body expressed as a percentage of the body-weight has been quoted as 0-21, per cent1 and 0-35 per cent2 by methods based on chemical analysis of human remains, while the results of Burch and Spiers8 based on tota,l-body radioactivity measurements indicate ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE presence of caesium-136 in fission products J. was first reported by Glendenin1, who detected a short-lived radioactive component in chemically purified caesium isolated from irradiated plutonium. This was in addition to the 27-year ceesium-JST, and it was identified as 12-9-day C3esium-136 ...

Notes: [Auszug] During July and August 1960, members of the Middlesex Hospital Medical School High Altitude Physiological Expedition spent twenty-four days at an altitude of 14,300 ft. on Mont Blanc2. 24-hr, urine collections were made from seven subjects (four men and three women). These specimens were frozen and ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE detection of the long-lived fission product, caesium-137, in human beings in the United States in 1955 1, was confirmed for residents of the United Kingdom in 1956 at Harwell2 and at Leeds3. Subsequent measurements of body radioactivity made at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, ...

Notes: [Auszug] In addition to its importance from the point of view of radiological protection, the late elimination rate of radium (or any alkaline earth) is of interest in the study of the physiology of bone, especially if data are available on the initial retention and plasma concentration. For example, ...

Notes: [Auszug] In an investigation of the retention of caesium in man, ten normal volunteer subjects took by mouth a single dose of 1 mg caesium as the chloride, in aqueous solution containing about 0.6 mc. caesium-132 and 0-1 mc. caesium-134. The retention was determined by excretion analysis and by body ...

Notes: [Auszug] METHODS are now available for the estimation of several important body constituents by nondestructive testing which can be applied to the living subject. Total-body water can be determined by the method of isotopic dilution using deuterium oxide or tritium oxide as the tracer. Estimates of the ...

Notes: [Auszug] There are now techniques for the preparation of mono-disperse aerosols of polystyrene particles, labelled with radio-nuclides, and suitable for inhalation by volunteers3. This has made it possible to study the plutonium calibration problem in vivo., using radio-nuclides which decay by orbital ...
