Conclusions 1. A boride layer of high quality, 80–120 μm thick, is attained with a power density of the laser radiation on the surface of steel 45 equal to 0.4 GW/m2 and a speed of shifting the specimen of 6–8 mm/sec. 2. Basically, the boride layer consists of the phases Fe2B and FeB. 3. The structure and phase composition of the boride layer are predominantly affected by the thickness of the layer of amorphous boron applied to the surface of the specimen.
