    Notes: Abstract The quasideuteron process has been investigated for photon energies 40 MeV〈E γ〈 160 MeV on the basis of a shell model picture modified by short range nucleon-nucleon correlations. It turns out that the cross section for the (γ,pn)-reaction depends sensitively on the details of the correlation function, i.e. on the exchange of high momenta between otherwise independently moving nucleons. The final state interaction has been consistently taken care of by using optical model wave functions for the outgoing nucleons. The results of the calculations for16O indicate that precise measurements of the (γ,pn) cross section do contain information on the properties of the nuclear wave functions for small internucleonic distances.

    Notes: Abstract The dynamic collective theory has been developed for vibrational nuclei in a previous paper. Here the details are studied and compared with experiments. For this purpose the structure of the dipole operator has been established, the energy matrix of the dipole-quadrupole interaction has been diagonalized and the various approximations are discussed quantitatively in detail. It is interesting that this systematic theory gives the details of theγ-absorption cross section in many nuclei.

For the coupling of giant resonances with surface quadrupole-vibrations a systematical theory is developed by computing the dipole-quadrupole interactionK 1(α2 α 1 α 1)0+K 0 (α 2 α 2)0 (α 1 α 1)0+K 2 ((α 2 α 2)2 (α 1 α 1)2)0. The dipole-quadrupole hamiltonian is solved by establishing the energy matrix with the 1-dipole-many-quadrupole phonon states as a basis.

    Notes: Abstract The absorption rates of bound 1s and 2p pions in some light nuclei have been investigated on the basis of a shell model picture modified by short range nucleonnucleon correlations. It turns out that the total absorption rate, the missing energy spectra and the single neutron energy spectra depend sensitively on the details of the correlation functions. The results of the present analysis indicate that one can obtain informations on the short range correlations from pion absorption experiments.

    Notes: Summary From 6,65 litres of ordinary neon 3,5 litres heliumfree20Ne with an isotopic purity of 99,95% were obtained in a thermal diffusion column of 5 units of 2,85 m length each. The so-called “spectroscopically” pure neon of trade qualitaty delivered in glass tubes contained 1,9% helium and about 0,5% nitrogen which could be easely detected and separated from the crude neon during the process.

    Notes: Im Hinblick auf die Tatsache, dass eine Kohlenoxydflamme in trockener Luft erlischt, wurde die Verbrennung von Kohlensuboxyd in trockener und feuchter Luft untersucht: 1Kohlensuboxyd brennt im Gegensatz zu Kohlenoxyd in trockener Luft weiter, wobei die Flamme jedoch ihre Struktur von Grund aus ändert. Während Kohlensuboxyd in feuchter Luft trübgelb mit einem dünnen blauen Saum brennt und stark zum Russen neigt, auch Russ an der Brennermüdung abscheidet, bildet sich in trockener Luft eine nicht russende, von der Mündung einige Millimeter abgehobene Flamme mit kleinem, weissglühendem Kegel an der Basis und grossem blauem Mantel.2Durch Luftzusatz entleuchtete Kohlensuboxydflammen erlöschen sofort in trockener Luft. Kohlenoxydflammen brauchen zum Weiterbrennen einen um so stärkeren Zusatz von Kohlensuboxyd je trockener die Verbrennungsluft ist.3In der trockenen Kohlensuboxydflamme stellt sich weitgehend das Boudouard'sche Gleichgewicht ein, durch das Kohlenoxyd gebildet wird. Dieses entweicht aus dem weissglühenden Kegel und verbrennt im äusseren Mantel der Flamme. Durch verschiedene Versuche wird die schon früher von Smithells behauptete Tatsache erhärtet, dass vorerhitztes Kohlenoxydgas in trockener Luft nicht erlischt, sondern weiterbrennt.
