Abstract. The occurrence of Sphaerospora tincae Plehn, 1925 from tench in pond farms from northern and southern Germany is reported. The parasites form large masses in the anterior part of the body displacing the head kidney. They seem to be host specific for tench and are not found in the excretory part of the kidney. Mortalities caused by rupture of the abdomen may reach 100%, but usually appear to be low.
