Notes: Abstract The mass redistribution in the earth as a result of an earthquake faulting changes the earth's inertia tensor, and hence its rotation. Using the complete formulae developed byChao andGross (1987) based on the normal mode theory, we calculated the earthquake-induced polar motion excitation for the largest 11,015 earthquakes that occurred during 1977.0–1993.6. The seismic excitations in this period are found to be two orders of magnitude below the detection threshold even with today's high precision earth rotation measurements. However, it was calculated that an earthquake of only one tenth the size of the great 1960 Chile event, if happened today, could be comfortably detected in polar motion observations. Furthermore, collectively these seismic excitations have a strong statistical tendency to nudge the pole towards ∼140°E, away from the actually observed polar drift direction. This non-random behavior, similarly found in other earthquake-induced changes in earth rotation and low-degree gravitational field byChao andGross (1987), manifests some geodynamic behavior yet to be explored.

Notes: In today’s highly volatile global market, design activities become more and more importantin the whole lifecycle of product. The process of different developments should adopt appropriatemodeling approaches at each stage. Different modeling technologies exert a great impact on differentdesign stages. Therefore, modeling design is crucial to achieve success in the process of productdevelopment. This paper presents an integrated modeling of design process for product development. Its objective is to realize concurrent design towards ever-growing demands of market that has alreadyintegrated design process and production activities. It can manage to develop product towards earlydesign activities. Different design stage model relations and activities are presented for productdevelopment. At first, the characteristics of different development stages are analyzed. Theperformances and attributes of product are established through considering component, constraintsand environment. Second, the process of product modeling is described in detail for early design, andthe time interval between the two activities is evaluated for concurrent engineering during the designmodeling. Third, a promising framework is given to describe the process of design. Finally, anapplication example and knowledge are presented to illustrate the process of product development

Notes: Diagnosis decision-making and evaluation analysis is two closely-related contents in theprocess of intelligent fault diagnosis, correct decision-making could be made only based on objectiveand fair evaluation. This paper brought up decision-making objective and correspondingdecision-making model for intelligent fault diagnosis, and gave its evaluation indicator architecture.Combining grey correlative analysis with hierarchical analysis method, multi-hierarchy greycorrelative analysis was brought forward to apply into intelligent fault diagnosis, its principle, algorithm and evaluation execution process were researched deeply, and finally the analysis samplewas given

Notes: A rapidly solidified Al-5Ti-1B master alloy prepared by the in-rotating-liquid spinningprocess has been investigated. It has been found that the in-rotating-liquid spinning process is apotential rapid solidification method to realize the continuous production of the master alloy wire on alarge scale. The microstructure of the Al-5Ti-1B was evidently improved after being rapidlysolidified. The agglomeration of the TiB2 particle was significantly decreased. Consequently, thegrain size of the purity aluminium refined by the rapidly solidified Al-5Ti-1B was reduced by 15%compared with that refined by the master alloy prepared under normal conditions

Notes: Bond strength of metal-glass bilayer laminate was determined via a simple testingapproach using cross-bonded sample and a special fixture. Tensile and shear strength in theinterface for glass-metal composite were obtained by this way. It is demonstrated that the strengthcan be accurately determined when it is lower than the glue strength but it is invalid if the strengthis higher than the glue strength. The specimen preparation and testing principle is introduced fordetermining the interface bonding strength of coatings

Notes: Abstract Short period anomalies in astronomical time and latitude residuals sometimes appeared simultaneously and/or separately before major earthquakes which occurred in the vicinity of site where astronomical time and latitude observations were made with classical instruments. This article summarizes our results, and suggests that the anomalies could be caused by some vertical changes due to the motion of the underground mass.

Notes: Abstract On July 28, 1976, a major earthquake (M=7.9) occurred in the Tangshan region of China. After the earthquake, it was found that astronomical time-latitude anomalies were observed preceeding the occurrence of the earthquake. These observations had been obtained on the Astrolabe of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory and the VZT of Tianjin Latitide Station, which are just located around the epicentre. The anomalies were in the analyses of the time and latitude residuals, and there are more examples verifying these phenomena. However, all those examples were found in post-earthquake analyses. In this paper we discuss the possibility of earthquake prediction and forecast from the rediduals of astronomical time-latitude. For example, series of the five-day means are analyzed. The observations were supposed to be terminated two weeks before the earthquake, and the data are then analyzed a year backward. After removing their averages, the standard deviations are calculated of these series are calculation. Eight earthquakes were chosen as the events to be examined, (see Table). Most of the related instruments obtained excellent observations. The results are shown in the Figure. It is evident that abnormal peaks of RT and RF appeared before each earthquake. Thus we may conclude the followings: (1) Under the normal observation conditions, one high predision instruments could inform about a major earthquake a few weeks or a few days before it occurrs. (2) The astronomical observations are seriously affected by the weather and observers and so they are some what uncertain.

Notes: Unitary transformations are performed with respect to three Lie group chains in quasispin schemes that are involved in the study of three different calculation schemes in ligand field theory. The unitary transformations hold true for either molecular or atomic orbitals being taken as the starting point. As a result, unitary transformations with respect to matrix elements are accomplished as well.
