Description: p53, known as a tumor suppressor, is a DNA binding protein that regulates cell cycle, activates DNA repair proteins, and triggers apoptosis in multicellular animals. More than 50% of human cancers contain a mutation or deletion of the p53 gene, and p53R175 is one of the hot spots of p53...

Description: The short-circuit current (), the open-circuit voltage (), and the maximum power point (, ) of monocrystalline and multicrystalline silicon solar cells under three kinds of partial shading patterns have been investigated experimentally. The partial shades are, respectively, the nine shelter locations by 1 cm × 1 cm black card, the six shelter locations by 2 cm × 1 cm black card, and the center shelters with isosceles triangle, circle, square, and two rectangles black cards whose areas are 2 cm2. Firstly, the results show that the partial shading causes disproportional high losses on those parameters of both cells but will have a minimal effect on . Secondly, it is found that those parameters of the monocrystalline cell are less dependent on the shading than that of the multicrystalline cell. Thirdly, it is noted that and of both cells will be decreasing dramatically as a rectangular black shading card with a long side parallel to cell’s finger, compared with that normal to cell’s finger. Finally, it can be seen that the effects of shading on the electrical parameters of both cells will be suppressed when the border lines of shading match the size of the shaded cell.

Description: Using a simple method involving chemical synthesis and calcination, Er-doped anatase hollow spheres (HS) have been obtained. Longer dwell times upon the calcination increase the roughness and thickness of the shells, and also facilitate formation of necks between neighboring HS. Anatase-rutile transformation was observed by FT-Raman for the TiO 2 -HS calcined at 800°C but this was not observed for the doped samples, which indicates that erbium cations inhibit that phase transition. In addition, sintering occurs at higher temperature and it is possible to note a high difference between the undoped-HS and the Er-doped HS in the sintering behavior and microstructural features. Finally, photoluminescence measurements show several peaks which are assigned to different defects of TiO 2 -like oxygen vacancies or interstitial Ti 3+ and to the emission of erbium cations.

Description: With the advancement of urbanization in China, more and more urban utility tunnel are being constructed in complex geological and hydrogeological environments. Dewatering during the construction of tunnel pits is often a big technical problem. Taking the construction of a utility tunnel in Sanya, Hainan Province, China as an example, this paper compares several technical methods of coral stratum and silty sand stratum dewatering in this area. The characteristics of the methods and their advantages and disadvantages were analyzed. One of these methods has been implemented by engineering dewatering, and the effect is remarkable.

Description: In recent years, more and more seawalls have been used in tidal areas along coastal areas. The frame type seawall has the advantages of no water occupation, land saving and light weight. It is a difficult problem to determine the overtopping and the elevation of the embankment. In this paper, a physical model test was carried out to measure the average overtopping of a framed seawall at the design frequency of wave height, and the average overtopping was calculated by using the theoretical formula. The results of physical model test and theoretical calculation were compared and analyzed. The results showed that the theoretical formula was 6 to 20% larger than that of the physical model test. Finally, the theoretical formula was proposed to predict the wave overtopping of frame seawall, which met the design requirements and provided a basis for determining the height of the top of the seawall. At the same time, the physical model test showed that the anti-arc cantilever wave abso...

Description: To identify microRNAs that are important in regulating breast cancer progression, the present study used data for the 199 961 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 837 breast cancer patients genotyped in a recent genome-wide association study to identify loci associated with lymph node metastasis (LNM). SNPs tagging the 15q22.2 locus showed a significant association with LNM and miR-190a was found to be the only microRNA in this region. The role of miR-190a in LNM was supported by the findings that increased miR-190a expression inhibited cell migration and invasiveness and that the target of miR-190a was protease-activated-receptor 1 (PAR-1), which is a metastasis promoting protein in several cancers. In addition, the promoter region of miR-190a was defined and found to contain half of an estrogen response element, suggesting that miR-190a is regulated by estrogen receptor (ER) signaling. This was confirmed by the findings that miR-190a expression was activated by 17β-estradiol and that ERα bound directly to this promoter. The importance of this ERα-miR190a-PAR-1 link in breast tumorigenesis is suggested by the findings of (i) an association between genetic polymorphism of the miR-190a -containing region and LNM that is modified by SNPs of PAR-1 and is particularly significant in ERα-positive patients and (ii) a combined effect of ERα and miR-190a expression on tumor grade/cancer stage. More importantly, the level of miR-190a expression in primary breast carcinomas correlated with overall survival. These findings suggest a novel pathway in which ERα signaling regulates miR-190a expression, causing inhibition of PAR-1 expression, correlated with inhibition of cancer metastasis.

Notes: Soy-cheese whey curd was prepared by mixing soymilk and cheese whey with the addition of glucono-delta-lactone (GDL) to coagulate the proteins. Three soymilk concentrations, 6:1, 8:1 and 10:1 (water:bean, v/w), and four cheese whey levels, 3%, 4.5%, 5.25% and 6% (w/v), were used. Heating the GDL treated soy-cheese whey milk in a hot water bath at 85°C for 25 min consistently produced a smooth and compact. curd without syneresis. Textural properties of the curd were tested by an Instron machine. Five parameters-stiffness, bioyield point, firmness, relaxation and plasticity—were determined. Among these, only stiffness and firmness could be used as the textural parameters for the curd.
