Abstract The inhibitory effects of 3 toxic dipeptides acting at distinct intracellular targets were tested in Saccharomyces grown in media containing ammonium sulfate, proline, or leucine as nitrogen sources. The differences in sensitivities observed in these media were ascribed to differences in uptake of the drugs. Kinetic transport assays using radioactive peptides confirmed that peptide transport in S. cerevisiae is markedly affected by the nitrogen content of the growth medium.
