Description: Plant development is modulated by the convergence of multiple environmental and endogenous signals, and the mechanisms that allow the integration of different signaling pathways is currently being unveiled. A paradigmatic case is the concurrence of brassinosteroid (BR) and gibberellin (GA) signaling in the control of cell expansion during photomorphogenesis, which...

Notes: A series of laboratory and field experiments has proved the validity of theoretical formulae for the geophone-to-ground coupling characteristics. Soil properties and geo-phone mass and size have been studied. It has been shown that soil properties in the immediate vicinity of the geophone determine the coupling, together with geophone mass and size.Statistical studies of coupling characteristics have been conducted on various soils. In some cases the dispersion of resonance frequencies and damping constants is quite large, even when the geophones have been carefully planted. As a rule, it may be said that geophone-to-ground coupling is not a source of trouble except -in high-frequency studies. However, the filtering effect of multiple geophones may be affected by the statistical fluctuations of coupling on a given type of soil, even at usual frequencies.

Notes: Fontanel, A., G. Grau, 1971, Corrélation optique en lumière cohérente, Geophysical Prospecting 19, 98–117.This paper describes a general bidimensional two-step method of correlation (or convolution) making use of the theory of holography. In the first step the light diffracted by one of the two plane transparent objects to be correlated interferes with the light diffracted by the other one. The hologram thus generated is photographed in the focal image plane of a convergent lens. Owing to the quadratic detection property of the photographic emulsion, the square of the modulus of the product of the spectra of the two objects considered is recorded on the photographic plate. In the second step the convolution product of the two objects appears when the hologram is illuminated with a beam of coherent light. In its geophysical application this optical method of convolution makes it easy for us to obtain the autocorrelogram of a seismic cross-section. This method also makes it possible to correlate each of the seismic traces by special precalculated optically-recorded filters.

Notes: 1°– Synthetic seismograms have been computed with and without multiples by exact and by approximate methods. By means of these seismograms, some studies have been made on the various multiple reflections, the character of the films, the effect of the surface in the formation of multiples, as well as on the shape of the pulse and the spectra of seismograms. Refraction synthetic seismograms have also been realized on schematic examples with fault and pinch-out.2°– Various techniques for synthesizing seismograms are described which make use of analogue computing equipment such as a bar with variable diameter, or of digital computers. The orders of magnitude of the prices of these various methods are shown.3°– Some of the limitations are described which are imposed on synthetic seismograms by the hypotheses and the inaccuracies of our knowledge of the conditions which prevail underground.

Notes: Case history of the use of fan filtering for improving reflection continuity without destroying their character. The field technique is described: wide-band, large dynamical range recording with a programmed gain control and a very slow A.G.C., small distance between trace centers, high cutoff wave-number.Although the total amount of mixing due to fan filtering is rather high, a broad spectrum was obtained and inverse convolution filtering was used to improve trace resolution.
