N-Trimethylsilyl Substituted AminogallanesThe synthesis of the monomeric mono(amino)gallanes 9, 10 is achieved by reaction of dialkylgallium chlorides R2GaCl (R = Me, Et) with lithium amides LiN(SiMe3)R′ [R′ = tBu, 2,6-iPr2C6H3 (= dipp)]. Combination of gallium(III)chloride with LiN(SiMe3)dipp results in the formation of the bis(amino)gallium chloride dipp(SiMe3)NGa(Cl)Ndipp(SiMe2)N(SiMe3)dipp 12. Oxidation of 9 affords the aminoethoxygallane [dippN(SiMe3)Ga(Et)μ-OEt]2 13, the structure of which is compared to that of the dialkylalkoxygallane 14.
    Notes: Die Darstellung der monomeren Mono(amino)gallane 9, 10 gelingt durch Umsetzung von Dialkylgalliumchloriden R2GaCl (R = Me, Et) mit den Lithiumamiden LiN(SiMe3)R′ [R′ = tBu, 2,6-iPr2C6H3 ( = dipp)]. Aus Gallium(III)chlorid und LiN(SiMe3)dipp entsteht das Bis(amino)galliumchlorid dipp(SiMe3)NGa(Cl)Ndipp(SiMe2)N(SiMe3)dipp 12. Die Oxidation von 9 ergibt das Aminoethoxygallan [dipp(SiMe3)NGa(Et)μ-OEt]2 13, dessen Struktur mit der des Alkoxygallans 14 verglichen wird.

    Notes: On the Chemistry of Gallium Compounds, II[1].  -  Preparation and Structure of Bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino)-[tris(trimethylsilyl)silyl]gallium  -  ein First Example for a Monomeric Bis(amino)gallane with Gallium-Silicon BondThe title compound tmp2GaSi(SiMe3)3 (4) (tmp = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino) was prepared by the reaction of (Me3Si)3SiLi · 3 THF (2) with tmp2GaCl (3). The NMR data (1H, 13C, 29Si) and the crystal structure of 4 are discussed. It contains a trigonal planar-coordinated gallium atom with long Ga-N and Ga—Si bonds of 191 and 247 pm, respectively. This compound is the first fully characterized monomeric gallium bis(amide) and the second structurally investigated compound with a gallium-silicon bond.

    Notes: The monomeric phosphanylgallanes R2GaPR'R (R = tmp, Mes; R' = H, tBu; R' Mes, tBu), the diphosphanylgallane mesGa(PtBu2)2, and diphosphandiylbisgallane [tmp2GaP-(tBu)]2, have been synthesized from alkali metal phosphides and substituted gallium chlorides. Low-temperature NMR studies of the phosphanylgallanes reveal no barrier to rotation about the gallium-phosphorus bond. Analysis of the crystal structures of tmp2GaPtBu2 confirms the monomeric nature of these molecules. The gallium-phosphorus bond lengths are found to be 237.5, 233.5, 235.4 pm (averaged), and 242.3 pm, respectively, with all phosphorus atoms being pyramidally coordinated.

    Notes: Reaction of lithium tris(trimethylsilyl)silanide · 3 THF with R2GaCl (R = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino, Me, Cl) yields tmp2GaSi(SiMe3)3 (3) and R2Ga(THF)Si(SiMe3)3 (R = Me, Cl) (7, 9). Both gallium nitrogen bonds in 3 are cleaved by protic reagents. Depending on the acidity of these agents, either oligomeric gallanes [(RO)2GaSi(SiMe3)3]n (R = Et, H, n = 2, 3) (11, 12) or tetramethylpiperidinium gallates [X3GaSi-(SiMe3)3]- (X = OPh, Cl) (13, 14) are formed. Hydroxide 11 adds lithium hydroxide to afford the mixed lithium gallium hydroxide 15. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies confirm the suggested constitutions. The gallium-silicon bond can adopt values between 236 and 247 pm. Here electronic influences of the substituents on the gallium center are of great importance as well as their steric demand. This is underlined by quantum chemical calculations on the ab initio (SCF) level.

    Notes: On the Chemistry of Gallium Compounds, IV. - Synthesis and Structure of Monomeric (2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidino)-gallanesMonomeric dimethyl- and diethyl(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino) gallanes have been synthesized and spectroscopically characterized. Starting from bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino)gallium halides (tmp)2GaX (16, 17, X=Cl, Br) various (aryloxy)- and organylbis (amido) gallium compounds (tmp)2GaY (18-21, Y = OAr, Ph, Me) have been obtained. The crystal structures of (tmp)2GaOPh (18) and (tmp)2GaPh (20) show trigonal planar-coordinated gallium atoms. Planarcoordinated nitrogen atoms with a GaN bond length of 188 pm are present in 20. In contrast, 18 shows one planar- and one slightly pyramidal-coordinated nitrogen atom, and this results in two different bond lengths of 184.9 and 181.8 pm, respectively.
