Notes: The project IDEA - Interactive Database for Energy-efficient Architecture - is a multinational collaborative project to build a European knowledge base on advanced energy conscious building design. At the core of this project are two earlier multimedia developments, the Swiss program DIAS and the German adaptation NESA which present the principles and applications of solar architecture in the respective national contexts. IDEA aims to improve know-how of European professionals and exchange of information between them. The database includes information on exemplary buildings, their technical concepts and on other specific conditions. IDEA presents the existing state of the art in the field of energy-efficient architecture by means of a multimedia database of built examples, an encyclopedia of design concepts and a set of interactive design support tools. The built examples have been selected from around Europe. IDEA assembles technical information on materials and energy-related standards and regulations and provides climatic data from all relevant European regions.

Notes: Summary Thin layer chromatography was applied to the separation of the neurosecretory granules from preoptic and hypophysial fractions of the eel. Special attention was given to the relation between the “free” and “bounded” form of hormones. The “free” form was revealed after elution from the separated fractions with a 5% sucrose solution. The “bounded” form was completely revealed after destruction of the neurosecretory granules by heating in presence of 0,25% acetic acid. From all the fractions investigated, four groups are obtained after the extraction with hot acetic acid. 1. An increase in hormonal activity. After elution with the sucrose solution we have intact and destroyed neurosecretory granules. The intact granules are broken by the acetic acid extraction, and the “bounded” form of hormone is then released. 2. No change in hormonal activity. All the hormonal activity is in the “free” form already after the elution with the sucrose solution. 3. 100% gain in hormonal activity. All the activity is in the “bounded” form (all the neurosecretory granules were intact). 4. “Unknown substances” which are active and able to provoke contraction of the uterus horn after sucrose elution, but which are destroyed by acetic acid extraction. By comparison of the positions of the two hormones on the chromatograms, it is shown that the migration properties are identical with those of arginine-vasotocin and ichthyotocin.

Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Une étude pharmacologique et histologique des transformations enregistrées le long du tractus neurosécrétoire est réalisée chez l'anguille européenne après hypophysectomie totale.
Notes: Summary A pharmacological and histological study of the transformations of the neurosecretory material observed along the neurosecretory tract of the hypophysectomized eel has been performed. The animals, sacrificed within a period of 8 to 150 days after hypophysectomy, have been first examined on a quantitative level by registrating the concentration of arginine-vasotocin and ichthyotocin in the anterior (preoptic nucleus) and caudal parts of the neurosecretory tract. The study was then transferred to a qualitative level for the same regions and post-operative times, to follow up the transformations of the neurosecretory material. The results obtained with these two approaches of investigation are compared. 1. On the quantitative level, the experiments showed that the arginine-vasotocin behaves differently if compared with ichthyotocin, and that a difference exists between the anterior and caudal parts of the neurosecretory tract. In general, a decrease of concentration in the preoptic nucleus is followed by an increase of concentration in the caudal part. This is particularly obvious in the case of the arginine-vasotocin. This result speaks in favour of the transport of hormones along the neurosecretory tract. 2. The experiment showed also that the hormones are always present, but show an important decrease in concentration. 3. The histological control confirmed the pharmacological results, showing great variations of the quantity and stainability of the neurosecretory material.
