Notes:
As a major area of employment for women, the banking industry provides considerable scope as a case study of equal opportunities in employment. This article aims firstly to analyse the extent and the various aspects of inequality in the English clearing banks and, secondly, to examine the extent of women's participation and influence within the major TUC-affiliated trade union in this field—BIFU.
