Description: Upper-ocean velocities along the cruise track of RV SONNE cruise SO285 were continuously collected by a vessel-mounted Teledyne RD Instruments 75 kHz Ocean Surveyor ADCP. The transducer was located at 6.5 m below the water line. The instrument was operated in broadband mode with 5 m bins and a blanking distance of 8.0 m, while 100 bins were recorded using a pulse of 0.82 s. The ship's velocity was calculated from position fixes obtained by the Global Positioning System (GPS). Heading, pitch and roll data from the ship's gyro platforms and the navigation data were used by the data acquisition software VmDas internally to convert ADCP velocities into earth coordinates. Accuracy of the ADCP velocities mainly depends on the quality of the position fixes and the ship's heading data. Further errors stem from a misalignment of the transducer with the ship's centerline. Data post-processing included water track calibration of the misalignment angle (-0.14° +/- 0.6607°) and scale factor (0.9980 +/- 0.0106) of the Ocean Surveyor signal. The average interval was set to 60 s.

Description: Hydroacoustic raw data from the SO285 cruise aboard the RV Sonne in 2021 (20/08/2021 to 02/11/2021) from the Canary Islands to the Benguela Upwelling System. The hydroacoustics were used as underway measurements during the mooring rescue cruise in the South Atlantic. No biological reference sampling was done on this cruise. We used the Sonne's SIMRAD EK60 system with 4 frequencies: 18, 38, 120 and 200 kHz. A trigger box was used to avoid interferences with the multibeam echosounders and ADCP during the cruise. Pinging interval is thus less consistent. Ping duration was set to 1.024ms.

Description: Hydroacoustic raw data from the M153 cruise aboard the RV Meteor in 2019 (15/02/2019 to 27/03/2019) to the Benguela Upwelling System. The hydroacoustics were used to observe the distribution of krill, zooplankton and pelagic fish up to the mesopelagic zone for the project TRAFFIC. We used a SIMRAD EK80 system with a transportable SIMRAD WBT Mini and combined transducer with 38 and 200 kHz. Data deeper than 750m has been identified as range limit and excluded.

Description: Hydroacoustic raw data from the SO283 cruise aboard the RV Sonne in 2021 (19/03/2021 to 25/05/2021) from the Canary Islands to the Benguela Upwelling System. The hydroacoustics were used as underway measurements during the mooring rescue cruise in the South Atlantic. No biological reference sampling was done on this cruise. We used the Sonne's SIMRAD EK60 system with 4 frequencies: 18, 38, 120 and 200 kHz. The data was limited to 1500m depth. A trigger box was used to avoid interferences with the multibeam echosounders and ADCP during the cruise. Pinging interval is thus less consistent. Ping duration was set to 1.024ms.
