Notes: Abstract An integral expression for domain stresses in the elastoplastic boundary element method is presented. Thus it is not necessary to evaluate the Cauchy. principal value in domain integral. This method shows some improvement in the accuracy and efficiency for the numerical process. A numerical result of axisymmetric elastoplastic problem has been worked out and a comparison with analytical result is given.

Notes: Abstract Two sets of trial functions with different variables are constructed for the admissible space of the finite element analysis. The trial functions satisfy the equilibrium differential equation inside elements, while the deflections and rotations on the edges of the elements are approximated by the Peano hierarchical interpolation functions. Then, a generalized variational principle is applied to set up the p-version hybrid analytical finite element method for plate bending problems. The accuracy of finite element computation can be improved by increasing the order of the interpolation polynomials with fixed mesh. In the finite element formulation, to obtain the stiffness matrices and the load vectors, it is only necessary to perform quadrature over the edges of the elements. These matrices and vectors possess an embedding structure. The conformability between the elements can be controlled automatically.

Notes: Abstract Some further results of the boundary element method for the Kirchhoff type plate bending problems are given. The direct boundary integral equation-boundary element scheme with higher conforming properties is used for several computation examples. The results of computation show that the numerical scheme seems to be more economical in computer time and with better accuracy in comparison with some previous results.

Notes: Abstract In this paper a theory of modal analysis for the dynamic response of fluid-structure systems is presented. A pair of generalized eigenvalue equations with three real symmetric matrices and their relationships are derived from the finite element equations in the form of structural displacements and fluid velocity potential. Generalized orthogonality relations of modal vectors are then developed. The response of the system to external excitation is derived in closed form by modal expansion. Two examples of the solution are given for illustration.

Notes: Abstract This paper systematically deals with the following three problems: (1) Some numerical schemes in coupling FEM- and BEM: including condensation of the boundary integral equation, symmetrization of equivalent stiffness matrix and treatment of traction discontinuity, (2) Coupling of elastoplastic finite elements to elastic boundary elements, (3) Coupling of elasto-viscoplastic finite elements to elastic boundary elements and numerical stability condition.

Notes: Abstract A multi-domain boundary element method is used to compute the stress intensity factor of plane stress/plane strain crack problems with friction. The analysis is performed by using traction-singular quarter-point boundary elements on each side of the crack tips. The increment iteration is given. The technique is applied to some specific examples in order to show that the results will be with good accuracy.

Notes: Abstract In this paper some research works of author's group on boundary element method for linear elastic and elasto-plastic problems are briefly summarized. The BE subrogions method and BE-FE coupling techniques are introduced, and some idea of the error estimation of BE solutions is presented.

Notes: Abstract A constitutive model for cyclic plasticity is briefly outlined. Then the model is implemented in a finite element code to predict the response of cyclic loaded structural components such as a double-edge-notched plate, a grove bar and a nozzle in spherical shell. Comparision with results from other theories and experiments shows that the results obtained by using the present model are very satisfactory.

Notes: Abstract The fluid-structure dynamic interaction problems can be treated by either Lagrangian or Lagrangian-Eulerian approach. They are coupled fluid-structure problems. Some engineering problems, especially those with a fluid free surface, are nonlinear in boundary conditions. This paper gives a brief representation of the basic equations and boundary conditions for some fluid-structure interaction problems and the method of their numerical treatment including some finite element and also finite difference-fluid element or finite element-boundary element coupled techniques. This paper represents part of the authors' work as well as some works on Engineering Hydroelasticity in China.
