    Notes: Abstract Dielectrophoretic coefficients of chloroplasts, untreated and treated with cationized ferritin, have been measured in axisymmetric ac electric fields at different frequencies. The treated chloroplasts have surface charge density 2.4 times smaller than the untreated ones. The dielectrophoretic coefficients are in the range 10-25 F · m2 to 7x10-25 F · m2 for frequencies from 6,000 Hz to 1 MHz. Dielectrophoretic effects have not been observed for frequencies from 1 to 6,000 Hz and from 1 MHz and 10 MHz. The surface charge decrease leads to an increase of 2–3 times in the dielectrophoretic coefficients and slight shift of the dielectrophoretic mobility of lower frequencies. These results may be qualitatively explained on the basis of the existing theories for cell and vesicle dielectrophoresis.

    Description / Table of Contents: Übersicht In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden ein mathematisches Modell und ein Programm für die Berechnung des stationären Betriebs von autonomen Asynchrongeneratoren vorgestellt. Spannung und Strom, Frequenz, Laststrom und Leistung werden bei Änderung der Drehzahl, Last und Kapazität bestimmt. Untersuchungen wurden durchgeführt, um die theoretischen Ergebnisse zu überprüfen. Die gemessenen und berechneten Werte wurden miteinander verglichen und eine gute Übereinstimmung festgestellt.
    Notes: Contents In this paper a mathematical model and algorithm are presented to obtain the steady state characteristics of autonomous induction generators. The values of the stator voltage and current, frequency, load current and power are calculated for varying rotor speed, load and terminal capacitance.

    Notes: Abstract This paper presents the results of a study by atomic-force microscopy of tin dioxide layers as a function of the conditions under which they are doped with iodine and tellurium during the production of the layers by thermal vacuum deposition of tin, followed by oxidation. Data concerning the atomic-force microscopy of layers fabricated in various processing regimes are presented and discussed. It is shown that introducing volatile impurities into the starting charge is an effective means of modifying the surface structure of the layers and of altering the character of its microsurface. The temperature dependence of the sensitivity of the layers to toluene vapor is studied and analyzed.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The influence of Co- and Mn-salts of α-, β- and γ-pyridinecarboxylic acids, resp., on the oxidation of butylbenzene by air has been studied. It has been found that the Co salt of picolinic acid, Mn and Co isonicotinate direct the oxidation process in favour of carbonyl compounds and acids. With the Mn salt of picolinic acid, the oxidation mainly gives esters.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Es wurde der Einfluß der Kobalt- und Mangansalze der α-, β- und γ-Pyridincarbonsäuren auf die Luftoxydation von Rutylbenzol in flüssiger Phase untersucht. Dabei wurde festgestellt, daß das Kobaltpicolinat, Manganisonicotinat und Kobaltisonicotinat den Oxydationsverlauf zur Bildung von Carbonylverbindungen und Säuren lenken. Das Manganpicolinat weist ein selektives Oxydationsvermögen auf, vorwiegend zur Bildung von Estern.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The present study characterized liquid-phase oxidation of mesitylene in the presence of boric additives. It is shown that mesitylene under these conditions is characterized by slow speed and small final depth of oxidation. Indications of almost full inhibition are observed in the presence of boric acid especially. For the first time in such cases no carbonyl compounds are observed in the oxidation products. The studied boric additives are characterized as moderate retardants of the total oxidizing process. Considerations are made in regard of how far the boric additives can be considered as catalysts of hydrocarbon liquid-phase oxidation. This information can be used in determing the most favourable conditions of oxidation from the practical point of view.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die oxydation von Mesitylen in flüssiger Phase in Anwesenheit borhaltiger Zusätze wurde untersucht. Es wurde nachgewiesen, daß unter diesen Bedingungen die Oxydation des Mesitylens mit einer geringen Reaktions-geschwindigkeit vor sich geht und nicht vollständig abläuft. Die geprüften borhaltigen Zusätze besitzen einen Inhibierungseffekt, der bei Borsäure am stärksten ausgeprägt ist. Die Abwesenheit von Carbonylverbindungen in den Oxydations-produkten von alkylaromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen wurde zum ersten Mal beobachtet. Die untersuchten Borsäureester sind als mäßige Hemmer des gesamten Oxydationsprozesses charakterisiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bei der Flüssigphaseoxydation von Mesitylen mit Sauerstoff lenkt Kobalt(II)-acetylaceton den Prozeß vorwiegend in Richtung auf 3,5-Dimethylbenzoesüre und 5-Methylisophthalsäure. In der Neutralfraktion fanden sich als Zwischenprodukte 3,5-Dimethylbenzylalkohol und der zugehörige Aldehyd. Zur qualitativen und quantitativen Analyse der Komponenten des rohen Oxydationsprodukts wurden analytische und präparative Dünnschichtchromatographie, Gaschromatographie, IR- und NMR-Spektroskopie herangezogen.
    Notes: Abstract Liquid phase oxidation of mesitylene with oxygen in the presence of cobalt(II)-pentane-2.4-dione was studied and found to yield principally 3.5-dimethylbenzoic acid and 5-methyl isophthalic acid. 3.5-Dimethyl benzyl alcohol and the corresponding aldehyde were identified as intermediate products in the neutral fraction. The crude oxidized mixture was analysed qualitatively and quantitatively by analytical and preparative thin layer chromatography, gas chromatography, and IR- and NMR-spectroscopy.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wurde der Einfluß der Kobalt- und Mangansalze der α-, β- und γ-Pyridincarbonsäuren sowie des Kobalt(III)-acetylacetonats auf die Oxydation von Isopropylbenzol in flüssiger Phase kinetisch untersucht. Zwecks Feststellung des Mechanismus des Prozesses während der Induktionsperiode wurden eine Reihe von Experimenten in der Anwesenheit der aktivsten Katalysatoren durchgeführt. Dabei wurde festgestellt, daß alle diese Katalysatoren am Initiieren des Radikalkettenprozesses teilnehmen. Die Ergebnisse sind im Einklang mit der Hypothese über die Bildung von Zwischenkomplexen mit Sauerstoff.
    Notes: Abstract The liquid phase oxidation of cumene in the presence of cobalt and manganese salts of α-, β- and γ-pyridinecarboxylic acids as well as of cobalt acetylacetonate has been kinetically studied. In view of determining the reaction mechanism during the initial period, a number of experiments were carried out in the presence of the most active catalysts. It was proved that all these catalysts take part in the initial stage of the radical chain process. The results are in accordance with the hypothesis for the formation of the intermediate complex with molecular oxygen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The liquid phase oxidation of butylbenzene by air in the presence of Co picolinate has been studied. It has been established that this catalyst directs the butylbenzene oxidation to butyrophenone and benzoic acid. On the basis of the data presented a probable mechanism of butylbenzene oxidation is suggested.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Es wude festgestellt, daß die Oxydation von Butylbenzol in flüssiger Phase mit Luft durch die Anwesenheit von Kobaltnicotinat hauptsächlich zur Bildung von Butyrophenon und Benzoesäure gelenkt wird. Der wahrscheinliche Oxydationsmechanismus wird vorgeschlagen.
