Abstract In a sample (N-200) from two populations of children diagnosed as having the attention deficit disorder (ADD: DSM-III diagnosis for “hyperactivity”), a 17% rate of nonrelative adoption was found. This figure represents an approximately eight-fold increase over the base rate of nonrelative adoption estimated in a non-ADD control group and in the general population.
