Notes: Abstract The Chongqing region located in Sichuan Province of China, comprises a large city, many small towns and rural areas. The region relies heavily on high-sulfur coal for energy production. Atmospheric pollution by sulfur oxides and other compounds from coal burning has become a major issue. Acid rain is observed throughout the region; volume weighted average pH is about 4.30. Average total S deposition for the region is estimated to be about 8 g S m−2 yr−1. In this paper we report concentrations of major ions in rain, fog, dew and clouds, of SO2 in air and of airborne particles as well as dustfall. The emissions and interactions between important chemical species in air and water droplets are discussed.

Notes: Abstract The emissions of SO2 in China correspond at present to 8–10 TgSyr−1. The rapid industrialization has caused a dramatic increase in the emissions in recent years and this increase is likely to continue. This paper describes studies of concentrations and effects of acidifying substances in parts of the Guizhou and the Sichuan provinces where the S-emissions are large. A small catchment about 10 km from Guiyang centre was equipped with instruments for studies of soils, soil water and streamwater chemistry. The molar ratio Al/(Ca+Mg) is 〉 0.8 in soil water in some places. Two small streams have median pH-values about 4.6 and 5.1. Laboratory studies with selected Chinese soils showed that the anion adsorption was low. These studies gave also important information on soil sensitivity. The studies confirm that acid deposition may affect soils in parts of south-western China, but the sensitivity varies dramatically and there is a strong need for more information.

Description: Considering the filtering problem of dynamic positioning (DP) ship for the slowly varying sea state, a multiple model adaptive observer (MMAO) for dynamic positioning ship is presented. The MMAO consists of a bank of nonlinear subobserver and a dynamic weighting signal generator, in which each sub-observer is designed based on different peak frequency of wave spectrum model. To improve the performance of the observer, subobserver using the measurement of position, velocity, and acceleration is used to update the estimated velocity of ship. The observer parameters are optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO). Finally, the method is verified effective by the computer simulation.

Description: Mobile phones and personal digital assistants are becoming increasingly important in our daily life since they enable us to access a large variety of ubiquitous services. Mobile networks, formed by the connection of mobile devices following some relationships among mobile users, provide good platforms for mobile virus spread. Quick and efficient security patch dissemination strategy is necessary for the update of antivirus software so that it can detect mobile virus, especially the new virus under the wireless mobile network environment with limited bandwidth which is also large scale, decentralized, dynamically evolving, and of unknown network topology. In this paper, we propose an efficient semi autonomy-oriented computing (SAOC) based patch dissemination strategy to restrain the mobile virus. In this strategy, some entities are deployed in a mobile network to search for mobile devices according to some specific rules and with the assistance of a center. Through experiments involving both real-world networks and dynamically evolving networks, we demonstrate that the proposed strategy can effectively send security patches to as many mobile devices as possible at a considerable speed and lower cost in the mobile network. It is a reasonable, effective, and secure method to reduce the damages mobile viruses may cause.

Description: How to verify the integrity of outsourced data is an important problem in cloud storage. Most of previous work focuses on three aspects, which are providing data dynamics, public verifiability, and privacy against verifiers with the help of a third party auditor. In this paper, we propose an identity-based data storage and integrity verification protocol on untrusted cloud. And the proposed protocol can guarantee fair results without any third verifying auditor. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that our protocols are secure and efficient.

Description: Dual-phase steel has been employed in the automotive industry as it has the advantages of high strength, satisfying ductility, low yield ratio, and so on. A novel framework for the weld nugget size prediction and control using finite element modeling and experimental research was proposed in this paper. The two-dimensional axisymmetric numerical analysis model was established and the phase transition on thermal expansion coefficient was taken into account. The whole welding process was simulated and discussed using thermal elastic-plastic theory. To validate the predictive methods of developed weld nugget size and confirmation experiments were implemented with the same input parameters in the ranges of process parameters. The simulated weld nugget sizes were in good agreement with the experimental results except for extreme welding conditions. The microstructure of the welding zone was also investigated based on metallographic experiments and temperature field analysis. The welding parameters were adjusted using the model proposed in this paper so as to obtain the nugget size with pull out failure mode.

Description: Due to the input time-delay existing in most thrust systems of the ships, the robust controller is designed for the ship dynamic positioning (DP) system with time-delay. The input delay system is turned to a neutral time-delay system by a state-derivative control law. The less conservative result is derived for the neutral system with state-derivative feedback by the delay-decomposition approach and linear matrix inequality (LMI). Finally, the numerical simulations demonstrate the asymptotic stability and robustness of the controller and verify that the designed DP controller is effective in the varying environment disturbances of wind, waves, and ocean currents.

Description: Boolean control networks have recently been attracting considerable interests as computational models for genetic regulatory networks. In this paper, we present an approach of impulsive control for attractor transitions in Boolean control networks based on the recent developed matrix semitensor product theory. The reachability of attractors is estimated, and the controller is also obtained. The general derivation proposed here is exemplified with a kind of gene model, which is the protein-nucleic acid interactions network, on numerical simulations.

Description: Sensors, Vol. 18, Pages 2004: Multi-Object Tracking with Correlation Filter for Autonomous Vehicle Sensors doi: 10.3390/s18072004 Authors: Dawei Zhao Hao Fu Liang Xiao Tao Wu Bin Dai Multi-object tracking is a crucial problem for autonomous vehicle. Most state-of-the-art approaches adopt the tracking-by-detection strategy, which is a two-step procedure consisting of the detection module and the tracking module. In this paper, we improve both steps. We improve the detection module by incorporating the temporal information, which is beneficial for detecting small objects. For the tracking module, we propose a novel compressed deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) feature based Correlation Filter tracker. By carefully integrating these two modules, the proposed multi-object tracking approach has the ability of re-identification (ReID) once the tracked object gets lost. Extensive experiments were performed on the KITTI and MOT2015 tracking benchmarks. Results indicate that our approach outperforms most state-of-the-art tracking approaches.

Description: Considering the problem of dynamic positioning systems for the slowly varying disturbances, a parametrically adaptive observer is presented. The peak frequency of observer is adjusted on-line by autoregressive (AR) spectral estimation; other parameters of observer are optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO). The peak frequency can be calculated by spectral analysis of the pitch, roll, and heave measurements. In the spectral estimation, Levinson-Durbin algorithm is used to solve the Yule-Walker equations. Finally, the computer simulation is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
