Abstract Tests were made of model specimens of piles, the ends of which were reinforced in different ways. The deformation of the reinforcement and of the binding of the specimens was found to differ significantly. A means of volume reinforcement of the end part of the pile is proposed, which may give the pile considerably greater strength as it is being driven in.
