    Description: We report a power efficient non-volatile magnetoelectric memory in the CoPt/(011)PMN-PT heterostructure. Two reversible and stable electric field induced coercivity states (i.e., high- H C or low- H C ) are obtained due to the strain mediated converse magnetoelectric effect. The reading process of the different coercive field information written by electric fields is demonstrated by using a magnetoresistance read head. This result shows good prospects in the application of novel multiferroic devices.

    Description: Magnetostructural transition from ferromagnetic orthorhombic phase to paramagnetic hexagonal phase can be obtained by chemically alloying appropriate amount of Fe 2 Ge into MnNiSi. The magnetostructural transition temperature is tunable in a wide temperature range of about 280 K. Saturation moment of the ferromagnetic orthorhombic phase increases from 2.62  μ B /f.u. to 3.17  μ B /f.u. with Fe 2 Ge-doping. The magnetostructural transition is accompanied by a large change of magnetization over 80 Am 2 /kg under magnetic field of 5 T. Relatively large magnetic entropy changes and working temperature ranges were observed in the vicinity of room temperature. Our findings suggest that MnNiSi-Fe 2 Ge material system is a promising platform for tunable magnetostructural transition and the associated magnetocaloric effect.

    Description: The scattering of plane SH waves incident on a circular sectorial canyon is considered. An accurate region-matching technique is applied to derive a rigorous series solution. Appropriate wavefunctions are employed to describe antiplane motions. Judicious basis functions, involving Gegenbauer polynomials, are well utilized to correctly capture the singular behaviour in stress fields near the canyon bottom. The enforcement of matching conditions on the auxiliary boundary leads to the determination of unknown coefficients. Plotted results demonstrate the influence of pertinent parameters on surface and subsurface motions. Both steady-state and transient results are included. The solution technique proposed achieves a considerable reduction in the computational effort, facilitating benchmark computations. The derived series solution enriches the limited list of series solutions presently known for canyon problems related to SH -wave scattering.

    Description: Magnetoelectric materials which simultaneously exhibit electric polarization and magnetism have attracted more and more attention due to their novel physical properties and promising applications for next-generation devices. Exploring new materials with outstanding magnetoelectric performance, especially the manipulation of magnetization by electric field, is of great importance. Here, we demonstrate the cross-coupling between magnetic and electric orders in polycrystalline Co4Nb2O9, in which not only magnetic-field-induced electric polarization but also electric field control of magnetism is observed.     Description: We investigate the magnetoelectric effect in Sr 2 CoGe 2 O 7 , which has a two-dimensional magnetic interaction between Co ions in the ab plane. This compound shows a weak magnetism and field-induced magnetic transition below the temperature of 7 K. It does not exhibit electric polarization under zero magnetic field. However, by applying an external magnetic field, the electric polarization is induced around its Néel temperature and increases with increasing magnetic field. The induced electric polarization in Sr 2 CoGe 2 O 7 is almost two orders of magnitude smaller than that of Ba 2 CoGe 2 O 7 . This result suggests that the different ionic radius of the strontium and the barium anion plays a key role in determining the property of electric polarization. The origins of electric polarization and magnetoelectric effect are discussed.

    Description: A series of FePt films with different magnetic structures are deposited on Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 –PbTiO 3 substrates. By applying an electric field across the piezoelectric single crystal substrate, an magnetoelectric effect is observed in FePt/Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 –PbTiO 3 heterostructure due to the phase transformation between face-centered cubic and face-centered tetragonal phases in the film. Taking advantage of the different coercivity caused by the electric field, the sign of magnetization can be manipulated reversibly at room temperature with the electric field switching on or off. Based on this experimental result, we demonstrate a model for the technology of information storage, in which data can be written electrically without false writing.

    Description: The electric field manipulation of magnetic properties is currently of great interest for the opportunities provided in low-energy-consuming spintronics devices. Here, we report the effect of electric field on magnetic and transport properties of the ferromagnetic SrRuO3 film which is epitaxially grown on Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 ferroelectric substrate. With the application of electric field on the substrate, the magnetization, Curie temperature and resistivity of SrRuO3 are effectively modified. The mechanism of the electric field manipulation of these properties is ascribed to the rotations of RuO6 oxygen octahedra caused by the electric-field-induced strain, which changes the overlap and hybridization between the Ru 4d orbitals and O 2p orbitals, resulting in the modification of the magnetic and electronic properties.     Description: The Mizoroki-Heck reaction, which couples aryl halides with olefins, has been widely used to stitch together the carbogenic cores of numerous complex organic molecules. Given that the position-selective introduction of a halide onto an arene is not always straightforward, direct olefination of aryl carbon-hydrogen (C-H) bonds would obviate the inefficiencies associated with generating halide precursors or their equivalents. However, methods for carrying out such a reaction have suffered from narrow substrate scope and low positional selectivity. We report an operationally simple, atom-economical, carboxylate-directed Pd(II)-catalyzed C-H olefination reaction with phenylacetic acid and 3-phenylpropionic acid substrates, using oxygen at atmospheric pressure as the oxidant. The positional selectivity can be tuned by introducing amino acid derivatives as ligands.     Description: This paper used SPSS and ARCGIS to measure the urban integration degree and well-being index, spatial features, and their correlation. This results show: (1) The space differentiation of migrant workers’ urban integration degree in Xi’an distinct: The northern great site protection zone area is low, eastern military area is peak and the western electronic district and southwest high-tech zone are second peak areas. (2) Migrant workers’ well-being index has differentiation spatial distribution: eastern military area is significantly higher than other regions, northern economic zone shows low-lying shape, southern cultural and educational area is higher than northern economic development zone, and central business district is higher than the surrounding. (3) As the result of correlation analysis in SPSS 19.0, it is shown that there is certain positive correlation between urban integration degree and well-being index of migrant workers in main urban districts of Xi’an.     Description: This study provides an efficient and environmentally friendly advanced oxidation technique involving the combined application of natural sunlight and hydrogen peroxide for the removal of harmful cyanobacteria from lakes and reservoirs. In this paper, we collected water samples from Taihu Lake (Wuxi, China) in August 2016 when cyanobacterial blooms had occurred and then performed an outdoor experiment. Hydrogen peroxide at 0.6 mM had no obvious effect on the cyanobacterial inactivation in the dark, even stimulating cyanobacterial growth to some extent. Cyanobacteria were inactivated by higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (1.0 mM) in the dark, as well as 0.4 mM hydrogen peroxide under sunlight irradiation, indicating that natural sunlight significantly enhanced the effect of hydrogen peroxide on the removal of cyanobacteria.
