    Notes: Aspects of the psychodynamics of organisation change are explored and in particular how emotion and emotionality can be read. A case is made to go beyond the dichotomous world of "rational" versus "emotional" and develop a greater appreciation of how the rational and the emotional can be "fused" or act in a co-existent and co-dependent fashion where one cannot be understood in the absence of the other. Read through the optic of identity, acts of so-called rationality may simply be an expression of a deeper, albeit unconscious realm - psychodynamics, in which emotion and emotionality are significant. It is through the optic of identity that the individual's attachment to the organisation is described and the meaning of behaviour in the midst of change is canvassed. It is noted that, depending upon the degree of identification with the organisation, one encounters behaviours that reflect dislodgement of identity and those more commonly associated with the processes of grieving. Some tentative strategies are advanced in managing these behaviours.

    Notes: Suggests that theories of organization structure since mid-century have been dominated by a systems view that emphasizes macro-economics. The potential for further contribution to theory at that level appears sharply limited. Role analysis and the theory of organization as interaction of internal and external roles offers opportunity for expanded depth of theoretical development in the domain of organization structure. Limited application of role analysis at the level of leadership that has progressed must now be carried down into the organization and over into the operating environment, to permit the established disciplines of individual differences, social psychology and psychodynamics to lead in revitalizing theory of organization structure.

Argues that we need to go beyond a mere reading of the passionate convictions, the "rational" rhetoric and ideological arguments in trying to understand this act of terrorism and the aftermath reactions. In highly emotionally charged and anxiety-producing environments of social conflict, one can also expect to encounter a number of psychodynamic processes - such as projection, projective identification, splitting, idealization, stereotyping, narcissistic desire for the ego (group) ideal, denial and other defence mechanisms.     Notes: Paradigms are sets of prior assumptions that configure ways of seeing. This article employs a notion taken from Web of Life to map how paradigms in marketing have proliferated according to their juxtaposition within three criteria, namely structure, pattern and process. The exercise, termed "paradigmapping", provides a useful picture of the relative positioning of selected contributions to the field. This positions each contribution according to its imposed relation to these three criteria. Each contribution involves preoccupation with one of the criteria, tolerance of a second and denigration of a third. The implications of this are explored.

    Notes: The formation of new businesses from research organisations has historically been seen as one of the more effective ways in which new knowledge and technology is commercialised. These spin–offs result from the transfer of people and intellectual property from the parent institution. It is the transfer of the tacit knowledge embodied in the human capital that differentiates this technology commercialisation mechanism from technology sale, licensing or joint ventures and alliances.Science parks and cooperative centres associated with universities are examples used internationally of incubator environments designed to nurture spin–offs. In New Zealand, however, there have been very limited attempts to develop such incubators. However, one Crown Research Institute, Industrial Research, has recognised that developing a spin–off strategy is a valid way for it to leverage its intellectual property and motivate its scientific talent, in order to satisfy the institute’s mandate to ‘create benefit for New Zealand’.It is rare to find studies of the spin–off activity focused primarily on the parent. This paper charts the development of Industrial Research’s spin–off strategy over the past eight years from an unintentional consequence of restructuring and changing funding priorities, towards a purposive strategy requiring different management structures and processes. A three–stage model is developed to describe the spin–off strategy evolution and the risks, benefits and components of such a strategy are discussed.
