Description: The red grouper (Epinephelus morio), of the family Serranidae, is the most important species, caught in the Campeche Bank, Mexico. The knowledge related with their reproduction is important for an adequate management. We found that sexual proportion (WH) changed by size. The biggest proportions of females was in the size class of 30 cm (1:31.5). Fishes over 75 cm, showed a not significantly different proportion from 1:l. Sex change was found between 30-35 cm (Lt). Fatty rnesenterial increases during the Fall (September, October and November), decreasing during Winter (December, January and Febrary). Spawning process starts in December (early winter) and tinish in May, occurring a massive spawning during February, March and April. 77% of mature females were found at mean bottom temperature of 22 * 1 OC. The estimated average fecundity by individual was 25.335~10e~g gs, The fecundit /size (Ft) and fecunditylweight (Fp) fecundity relationship as, Ft=O.O1002 L ~ . a~nd" Fp~ = ~4.5 0090 L14'912 The relative fecundity ranged between 102.6-573.5 eggslg. Size composition in the commercial catches show that 32% of the fishes were caught before they spawn (sizes between 20-35 cm), and catches ocurred in all size classes.
