Description: During work for a generic revision of the family Bulimulidae some material from French Guyana and Surinam came to my hands. This material stems from the collections of the Mus\xc3\xa9um National d\'Histoire Naturelle, Paris (MNHN), the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden (RMNH) and the Zo\xc3\xb6logisch Museum, Amsterdam (ZMA). The specimens of the present study belong mainly to the genera Bulimulus Leach, 1814 and Drymaeus Albers, 1850 (among them the type material of Vernhout (1914)).\nThe following abbreviations have been used: AG, albumen gland; EP, epiphallus; FL, flagellum; OV, ovotestis; P, penis; PR, prostate; SD, spermathecal duct; SP, spermatheca; VD, vas deferens.\nRecently Altena (1975) published some data on land Gastropoda from Surinam, including notes on some Bulimulidae. Restudying his material I have the following comments : (1) Drymaeus interruptofasciatus Vernhout = Drymaeus semimaculatus Pilsbry. (2) Drymaeus papyraceus Mawe sensu Altena = Drymaeus altenai sp. n. (3) Drymaeus succineus was described by Pilsbry (1901), not by Vernhout.\nThe material upon which Vernhout based his record for Surinam consists of one specimen, which does not fit the redescription of Drymaeus succineus as given by Parodiz (1962). [I call in question whether the identification by Parodiz of succineus as a member of Stenostylus is correct]. It seems better to delete this taxon from the faunal list as given by Altena (1975). (4) Drymaeus quadrifasciatus Vernhout = Drymaeus vernhouti nom. n. (5) Simpulopsis corrugata Guppy belongs to the Bulimulinae instead of to the Amphibuliminae (misspelled Amphibulimulidae by Altena). 1) Notes on Bulimulidae, 3. \xe2\x80\x94 Basteria, 40: 3-6 (1976).

    Publication Date: 2024-01-12
Description: In this publication a revision is given of the genera of the subfamily Bulimulinae (Gastropoda, Pulmonata, Bulimulidae).\nThe morphological variation of the shell, radula, pallial organs and genitalia is analized and 21 character transition series are recognized.\nIn the systematical part the following data are presented for each genus : description of shell and anatomy, distribution, ecology, bibliography and a list of taxa. The number of (sub) genera is reduced from 80 to 43 ( + two nomina inquirenda). A new synonymy is : Paracochlea Hylton Scott, 1967 = Eudioptus Albers, 1860. The following new species names are introduced : Bostryx sophieae, Drymaeus (Drymaeus) marcapatensis, Drymaeus (Drymaeus) sophieae, Drymaeus (Mesembrinus) pseudobesus. Berendtia digueti Mabille is designated type species of Teneritia Mabille ; Helix zoographica d\'Orbigny is designated type species of Hamadryas Albers.\nBased on the transition series mentioned above, hypotheses of phylogenetic relationships are presented for the genus groups, using the methods of Hennig. The relationships between the five subfamilies of the Bulimulidae are also investigated but remain tentative.\nIn the zoogeographical section the various theories are reviewed and their relevance for the distribution of the Bulimulinae is treated, using the hypotheses of phylogenetic relationships and Croizat\'s vicariance theory.

Description: The family Orthalicidae is well represented in Peru but, like in other families, some species are wellknown and others have not been reported on since their original descriptions. In this paper we present new records for well-known species and elucidate the status of several lesser known taxa. Four taxa are described as new: Bostryx chusgonensis sipas, B. fragilis, Scutalus (Scutalus) mariopenai and S. (S.) phaeocheilus altoensis. The following species are recorded as new to the Peruvian malacofauna: Corona pfeifferi, Drymaeus (D.) branneri, and Thaumastus flori. Strophocheilus tenuis Haas, 1955 is now considered synonymous with Thaumastus (Paeniscutalus) crenellus (Philippi, 1867). Plekocheilus conspicuus Pilsbry, 1932 is now placed in the synonymy of Thaumastus flori (Jousseaume, 1897). Drymaeus tigrinus Da Costa, 1898 is now considered a junior subjective synonym of Drymaeus (D.) strigatus (Sowerby, 1838).

Description: The second part of this series on the Bulimulidae deals with the genera Plekocheilus Guilding and Naesiotus Albers, two and six species of which are recognized respectively.\nThe following new synonymy is proposed: Bulimulus chrysaloides Pilsbry = Naesiotus chrysalis (Pfeiffer). Bulimulus (Protoglyptus) sanctaeluciae var. luciae Pilsbry is considered to be a valid species.

Description: This paper presents a comprehensive overview of literature on Cuban terrestrial molluscs since the 18th century. It currently cites approximately 1000 references, dealing with a) primary and secondary sources directly treating Cuban taxa or relevant for the study of the Cuban malacofauna; b) abstracts of congresses, unpublished theses, and internal reports (\'grey literature\'); and c) biohistorical papers dealing with the life and work of Cuban malacologists. To provide some context, we also give brief overviews of Cuban and non-Cuban authors and journals issued on the island relevant for Cuban malacology.

Description: This series of papers is based on the Bulimulidae collected by dr. P. WAGENAAR HUMMELINCK during several trips to the West Indies, and additional material from several museum collections.\nThe species dealt with in this series have previously been treated in part by several authors and in particular monographically by PILSBRY in the Manual of Conchology (second series, vol. 10-12, 14). Thanks to additional information and access to previously unknown type material, it is now possible to present a revision of this family in the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico.

Description: During a collecting trip through southern and central Mexico (Breure, 1974) special attention has been paid to Bulimulidae and Urocoptidae.\nAmong the material of urocoptids a new species has been found.\nAnisospira velascorum sp. n. (figs. 1-10, pl. 1) Description. \xe2\x80\x94 Shell up to 30.5 mm, 2.39 times as long as wide, rimate, with rather convex sides; cylindrical; solid. Colour reddish-brown. Surface slightly shining, with numerous fine riblets, which are slightly recurved and equally spaced over the surface of the shell. Riblets about (half) as broad as the intervals, with 5-6 riblets/mm on the antepenultimate whorl.\nDecollate; adult shell with 7 whorls, moderately convex; first three whorls of adult shell rapidly increasing in width, other whorls nearly cylindrical, but last whorl usually more slender. Suture well impressed. Aperture broadly ovate, usually adnate, as long as wide, 0.23 times the total length. Peristome moderately thickened, narrowly reflexed, whitish. Axis with two smooth spiral lamellae, confined to the last 11/2 whorl. One lamella just above floor of whorl, blade- to cord-like; the second lamella, which is less developed and absent in some specimens, is located near the middle of the axis (fig. 2).\nGenitalia. \xe2\x80\x94 The genitalia of this species correspond to the general description for those of Anisospira given by Thompson (1968: 149), but the epiphallus originates below the apex of the penis (fig. 10) and is ca. 7 times as long as the penis.\nGenital atrium. The lumen is elongate with infoldings, and lined with a cubic epithelium (cell height 5 \xce\xbcm). The subepithelial tissue is made up by loose connective tissue in which some light blue (with Alcian Blue; hereafter indicated as AB) staining cells are dispersed. At the periphery
