Description / Table of Contents:
The crystallizing behaviour of cellulose tricarbanilate with a degree of polymerization between 80 and 7000 was investigated. Crystallization was carried out at different concentrations from chloroform-ethanol mixtures. Out of very dilute solutions (about 0,01 g/l.) polymers with a degree of polymerization between 1500-7000 were found to yield only small crystallites consisting of one or a few folded molecules or associates thereof. Single crystals were formed only with degrees of polymerization below 1000. Out of more concentrated solutions (about 0.5 g/l.) fibrous structures are formed. The results are discussed in terms of the kinetic theory of LAURITZEN and HOFFMANN.
Notes:
