    Description / Table of Contents: Contents With regard to mechanical stresses rotors of high speed induction motors can be constructed from solid iron with squirrel cage and tangentially grooved surface. The grooves cause a reduction of the eddy current losses in the rotor surface. In this paper a method is described to calculate the behaviour of solid rotor machines with sinusoidal or inverter supply. Especially the iron losses are calculated and the groove dimensions are designed. The influence of current source and voltage source inverters upon the machine losses is shown.
    Notes: Übersicht Die Rotoren schnellaufender Asynchronmaschinen können im Falle mechanischer Festigkeitsprobleme als Massivrotoren mit Kurzschlußkäfig und tangential gerillter Oberfläche ausgeführt werden. Die Rillungsstruktur dient dabei der Unterdrückung von Wirbelstromverlusten im Eisen, die vorwiegend als Oberflächenverluste auftreten. Im Aufsatz werden Rechenverfahren angegeben, die die Nachbildung mit gerilltem Massivrotor versehener Maschinen bei Netz- und Umrichterspeisung gestatten. Schwerpunkte der Betrachtungen sind die rechnerische Ermittlung der Wirbelstromverluste im Rotoreisen und die Optimierung der Rillungsabmessungen. Der Einfluß verschiedener Umrichtersysteme, und zwar strom- und spannungseinprägender Zwischenkreisumrichter, auf die Maschinenverluste wird gezeigt.

    Notes: Abstract Cytochrome c′ of Methylococcus capsulatus Bath is involved in electron flow from the enzyme responsible for hydroxylamine oxidation, cytochrome P460, to cytochrome c 555. This cytochrome is spectrally similar to other cytochromes c′ but is larger (16,000 Da) and has a lower midpoint potential (–205 mV). By a combination of Edman degradation, mass spectroscopy, and gene sequencing, we have obtained the primary structure of cytochrome c′ from M. capsulatus Bath. The cytochrome shows low sequence similarity to other cytochromes c′, only residues R12, Y53, G56, and the C-terminal heme-binding region (GXXCXXCHXXXK) being conserved. In contrast, cytochrome c′ from M. capsulatus Bath shows considerable sequence similarity to cytochromes P460 from M. capsulatus Bath (31% identity) and from Nitrosomonas europaea (18% identity). This suggests that P460-type cytochromes may have originated from a c′-type cytochrome which developed a covalent cross-link between a lysine residue and the c′-heme.

    Notes: Summary The physical distances between endpoints of deletions in the gal operon of λdgal phages previously isolated and mapped by genetic methods have been measured by electron microscopy of heteroduplex DNA. Thus, the galT and galK sites previously mapped by genetic methods, may be assigned to 13 and 4 intervals, respectively, of known physical lengths. The physical data clearly show a nonrandom distribution of these deletion endpoints. On the other hand, a large number of deletions in the gal operon obtained as survivors of a λ cI857 lysogenic strain at 42°C also show a non-random distribution of endpoints of deletions in the gal genes. There are at least two sites in the gal genes at which we observed a clustering of endpoints of deletions within the same regions of λdgal del-phages and in the bacterial deletion mutants.

    Notes: Der Leitgedanke, daß die Eigenschaften der Atome die Eigenschaften der aus ihnen gebildeten Moleküle prägen, wird in diesem Beitrag systematisch verfolgt. Dazu wird eine Unterscheidung zwischen drei Arten von Atomeigenschaften getroffen: a) direkt spektroskopisch meßbare, b) auf theoretischen Konzepten basierende und c) solche, die den Atomen in ihrer Wechselwirkung in Molekülen zugeordnet werden können. Auf der Basis der Elektronegativitäten von Atomen, die aus spektroskopischen Daten bestimmt werden, zusammen mit der Annahme des Elektronegativitätsausgleichs in den Bindungen werden Partialladungen der Atome in Molekülen bestimmt. Diese Partialladungen lassen sich sehr gut mit ESCA-Daten und Protonenaffinitäten korrelieren. Des weiteren werden verläßliche Formeln zur Abschätzung von Bindungslängen und -energien sowie Kraftkonstanten gegeben.

    Description / Table of Contents: Discrete Polynuclear Metal Complexes from Polysulfide Solutions: [Cu6S17]2-, a Novel Binary Polynuclear CuI Complex with Several Remarkable Structural FeaturesThe complex [Cu6S17]2-, obtained from Cu(acac)2 and an ethanolic polysulfide solution, contains an unusual arrangement of the metal atoms and novel types of ligand coordination, particularly of polysulfido (S42- and S52-) ions. The relevance of the synthesis with respect to the “dilemma of transporting metals together with sulfur” for the process of metal sulfide rock formation is evidenced. (PPh4)2[Cu6S17] crystallizes in the space group C2/c with Z = 4 (for further details see Inhaltsübersicht).
    Notes: Der Komplex [Cu6S17]2-, der als Tetraphenylphosphonium-Salz (1) aus Cu(acac)2 und einer ethanolischen Polysulfidlösung erhalten wurde, zeigt eine ungewöhnliche Anordnung der Metall-Atome und eine neuartige Koordination von Polysulfidoliganden (S42- und S52-). Auf die Relevanz der Synthese bezüglich der Problematik der Entstehung von Metall-Sulfid-Mineralien wird hingewiesen. 1 kristallisiert monoklin in der Raumgruppe C2/c mit Z = 4 (Gitterdimensionen a = 20,270(7), b = 11,605(5), c = 26,331(9) Å, β = 109,68(4)°).
