    Description: The study was carried out by measuring plant height, length of leaves, width of the leaves, length of inflorescent, length of inflorescent tip were also measured with a measuring tape. Number of tillers per plants was counted. Soil auger was used to take soil samples randomly from ten different locations in Tomas Dam Kano states Nigeria. At the depths of 0-5cm, 5cm 13 10cm, 10cm 13 15cm. The soil samples were put into polyethylene bags and labelled according to their depth for mineral analyses. In the two season calcium, nitrogen and phosphorus constitute the highest concentration of the minerals at 0 155 cm depth. There is no significant differences in terms of mineral composition between wet season and dry season.     Description: The acute toxicity of galex (Metolachlor) to fingerlings of Orechromis niloticus (Trewavas) was determined in 96hour static bioassays. During the assays, opercular ventilation and tail fin movement rates of the fish were determined. Haematological parameters of the blood and histopathology of the gills were observed. The 96hours LC50 of galex to fingerlings of O. niloticus was observed to be 9.30mgL-1~c 1.04. Histopathology of gills of the fish exposed to l100mgL -1, 1200mgL and 13..00mg/L-1 showed a dose-dependent disruption of the architecture of the lamellae and atrophy which led to impairment in oxygen uptake. Other symptoms of toxicosis in exposed fish include haemorrhage of the gills and fins, blood shot eyes of the fish, copious production of mucus on the body and head, agitated swimming, eruption of the ventral side and spilling out of the digestive system of fish, air gulping and death.

    Description: The river was divided into two, within each sampling station. Open water and Typha latifolia infested area. The extent of coverage of Typha latifolia each year were determined using line transect. Experimental gill nets were used for the experiment in each location, and the data were collected every three months for the period of two years. The numbers of fish caught and their species in the three sampling sites were recorded. Seventy-four different species of fish were caught in the first year in open water while sixty one different species were caught in Typha latifolia infested area. In the second year seventy-four different species of fish were caught, while forty-five different species of fish were caught in Typha latifolia infested area. Typha latifolia proliferation affects all physio-chemical parameter in water.

    Description: The monthly variations in the physico-chemical parameters and zooplankton abundance were followed from December, 2003 to March 2004 in Makwaye (Ahmadu Bello University Farm) Lake, Samaru, Zaria. In this lake, all physico-chemical parameters investigated showed wide variations within the months except hardness, which exhibited highly significant variation both between stations and within months. Chemical variables including Na, Mg, Zn, Pb, Fe, K and Cu showed significant variations within the months. Three groups namely Cladocera (32.62%), Rotifera (29.33%) and Copepoda (38.05%) were observed. These indicated low species richness
