The reduction of SiBr4 with Mg was investigated regarding its yields in various solvent mixtures and compared with the solubility of MgBr2 in the corresponding solvents. The results - confirmed by IR spectra - show that the effect of solvent isn't based on weakening of the Si—Br bond but on dissolving the formed MgBr2.

Die Reduktion von SiBr4 mit Magnesium wurde in verschiedenen Lösergemischen bezüglich ihrer Ausbeute untersucht und mit der Löslichkeit von MgBr2 in entsprechenden Medien verglichen. Die Ergebnisse - unterstützt durch IR-Spektren - lassen erkennen, daß die Wirkung des Solvens nicht auf der Lockerung der Si—Br-Bindung, sondern auf der Lösung des MgBr2 beruht.
