Summary 1. For lithium greases (pure lithium stearate — MVP oil, recooked TsIATIM-210 commercial grease, and the previously studied system of lithium stearate — nonpolar vaseline oil), the general nature of the variation in yield value and syneretic properties has been determined in relation to changes in the temperature schedule of cooling from isotropic solutions. 2. It has been demonstrated by electron microscopy that the size and form of the soap fibers forming the structural framework of a grease is clearly related to phase transformations of the soap and to the conditions of soap crystallization, which basically determine the yield value and syneretic properties of greases. 3. A relation has been established between submicrostructure and sedimentation volume of a disperse phase of greases prepared with various cooling schedules. 4. The effect of grease milling on the nature of particle breakdown and aggregation has been demonstrated.
