Collective diffusion in monodisperse suspensions of strongly interacting colloidal particles was studied using a single exponential function to model the memory kernel entering in the evolution equation for the dynamic structure factor, F(q,t). The parameters of the memory function are calculated exactly, using short time conditions for F(q,t), which are derived from the generalized Smoluchowski equation without hydrodynamic interactions. Our theoretical results, for particle interacting via a Yukawa type pair potential, show a good agreement at short and intermediate times with Brownian Dynamics data, for a large range of values of the wave vector q.
