    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract A small area of 300 sq. km in the crystalline basement of northern Bahia state, Brazil, reveals the following petrotectonic evolution before sedimentation of the Bambui-Canudos series (Upper Precambrian): facoidal gneisses with foliation striking E-W — the oldest direction observed in the area — and fold axes plunging S to SW occur as tectonic remainders in the predominant banded gneisses and anatexites of the Caraiba Series, which trend SSE-NNW. Basic and ultrabasic intrusives have been deformed simultaneously with the banded gneisses and are recrystallized in amphibolitic facies. After this orogenesis dolerites filled fissures running SW-NE, SSE-NNW, N-S and WSW-ENE which probably opened due to horizontal stress in N-S direction. Subsequently mainly dextral strike-slip movements took place in blastomylonite zones running N-S to SSE-NNW and transformed the dolerites into metadolerites and amphibolites. Contemporaneously with the intrusion of the dolerites a sequence of fine clastic sediments with intercalations of basic effusives was deposited upon the Caraiba Series und later was folded with fold axes trending SSE-NNW. The posttectonic recrystallization of these rocks took place under the conditions of the zeolitic to greenschist facies. As latest act of deformation in the crystalline basement silicified mylonite zones striking N-S to SSW-NNE were formed.
    Abstract: Resumo Uma área de 300 km2 no embasamento cristalino do norte do estado da Bahia, Brasil, exibe a seguinte sucessÃo de eventos petrotectÔnicos na era precambriana anterior à sedimentaÇÃo do grupo Canudos-Bambui (Precambriano superior): gnaisses facoidais com foliaÇÃo E-O e eixos de dobramento plungeando para S e SO apparecem sob forma de restantes tectÔnicos nos gneisses bandeados e nos anatexitos do “Grupo Caraiba” que exibe direcÇÃo regional SSE-NNO. Intrusivas básicas e ultrabásicas foram deformadas juntamente com os gnaisses bandeados e recristallizaram em facies anfibolítica. Após desta orogenese doleritos preencheram fracturas rumando SO-NE, SSE-NNO, N-S e OSO-ENE que provavelmente abriram-se devido à tensÕes horizontais em zonas N-S. Em seguida movimentos horizontais dextrais occorreram em zonas blastomiloníticas com direcÇÃo N-S à SSE-NNO, nas quais os doleritos foram transformados em anfibolitos. Contemporâneamente com a intrusÃo dos doleritos ou pouco mais tarde, uma sequencia de sedimentos clásticos finos com intercalaÇÕes de efusivas básicas foi sedimentada em cima das rochas do grupo Caraiba, em seguida foi dobrada com os eixos rumando SSE-NNO e metamorfoseada sob as condiÇÕes da facies zeolítica e da facies dos xistos verdes. O ultimo acontecimento tectÔnico no embasamento anterior à sedimentaÇāo do grupo Bambui-Canudos foi a formaÇÃo de zonas miloníticas rumando N-S, acompanhadas de silicificaÇÃo e de transformaÇÃo das rochas vizinhas em milonitos com parageneses mineralógicas da facies dos xistos verdes.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Ein 300 qkm gro\es Teilgebiet des Kristallins von Nord-Bahia, Brasilien, lÄ\t folgende Baugeschichte in der Zeit vor Ablagerung der jungprÄkambrischen Bambui-Canudos-Serie erkennen: als Älteste petrotektonische Einheit bilden Augengneise mit E-W streichenden s-FlÄchen und halbsteil S bis SW tauchenden B-Achsen tektonische Relikte in den flÄchenmÄ\ig vorherrschenden BÄnder-gneisen und Anatexiten der Caraiba-Serie, in welcher BÄndergefüge und Gro\-faltenachsen SSE-NNW streichen. Basische und ultrabasische Magmatite sind in die BÄndergneise eingedrungen, gemeinsam mit diesen verformt worden und in Amphibolitfazies rekristallisiert. Nach dieser Orogenese intrudierten Dolerite in SW-NE, SSE-NNW, N-S und WSW-ENE streichenden Gangspalten, die sich vermutlich infolge N-S gerichteter horizontaler Schubspannungen öffneten. Anschlie\end verschliffen in N-S bis NNW-SSE streichenden Zonen vorwiegend dextrale Horizontalverschiebungen die BÄndergneise zu Blastomyloniten und die Dolerite zu Metadoleriten bis Amphiboliten. Vermutlich gleichzeitig mit der Intrusion der Dolerite wurde auf dem Älteren Kristallin (Caraiba-Serie) eine Folge feinklastischer Sedimente mit Einschaltungen basischer Eruptiva abgelagert. Die anschlie\ende Orogenese schuf enge Falten um SSE-NNW-Achsen, und die Gesteine dieser Folge rekristallisierten posttektonisch unter den Bedingungen der zeolithischen bis Grünschiefer-Fazies. Zuletzt entstanden im Kristallin N-S bis NNE-SSW streichende schmale silifizierte Mylonit- und Störungs-Zonen unter Neubildung von Paragenesen der Grünschieferfazies in den Nachbargesteinen.
