Notes: Abstract New methods for light curve analysis in the frequency-domain applicable to eccentric systems (cf. Kopal and Al-Naimiy, 1978) have been applied to three eclipsing variables — V 477 Cyg, V 1143 Cyg and AS Cam — all wide enough to make their proximity effects photometrically insignificant. New elements of these eclipsing systems have been established, and compared with pre-existing data.

Notes: Abstract The aim of the present paper has been to present an analysis of the light curve of two eclipsing systems RW Gem and AY Cam by Fourier analysis of the light changes in the frequency domain which was developed by Kopal (1975a, b, c, d, e; 1976). In Section 1, the subject is introduced in a general way, with the intention of laying the foundation of the light curve analysis. Section 2 contains the evaluation of the empirical values of the theoretical momentA 2m is demonstrated, with the equation of the condition given. Then the equations forA 2m in terms of the elements of the total and the annular eclipses, including partial and annular phase of transit eclipse, follow. The analysis of the light curves of the two eclipsing binaries (RW Gem and AY Cam), the results and the discussion of our solution, are outlined in Section 3.

Notes: Abstract Photometric curve fits have been investigated by means of numerical quadratures to develop theoretical light curves appropriate to stars built up in accordance with the Roche model. The method has been applied previously to β Per (Al-Naimiy and Budding, 1977) on the basis of available observations in red and infrared, while presently applied to two systems with contact components. (i) U Sge, spherical primary totally eclipsed by a contact component secondary. Improved photometric elements of the system have been found, and compared with those obtained by Kopal's method in the frequency domain. The outcome of the curve fitting corresponds well with the results of an analysis in the frequency domain. (ii) AW UMa, exhibiting the shallowest minima known for totally eclipsing W UMa systems. The physical and geometrical elements of the system have been found, and the contact nature of the two components confirmed.

Notes: Abstract The aim of the present paper is to present the analysis of the light curves of four totally-eclipsing systems (BM Ori, VW Cyg, TW Dra, and RW Mon), using the automated Fourier techniques in the frequency-domain, developed recently by Kopal and his school at Manchester University. New Physical and geometrical elements for the above systems are derived.

Notes: Abstract The eclipsing variable PP Lacertae has been examined on the basis of two light curves (V andB) analysed by means of the Fourier analysis of the light changes in the frequency domain, taking into account the perturbation and distortion effects of both components. A set of geometrical and physical elements for the system is obtained from both minima, through their magnitude variation during the observation time. The system has been discussed according to the behaviour of the light curves.

Notes: Abstract Photoelectric observations of the eclipsing variable β Per, were obtained inUBV standard system, and new elements for the primary minimum were determined as $$J.D. = 2445641.5135,O - C = 0_.^d 0.009.$$ The light curves of the system were analysed using Fourier techniques in the frequency-domain. The fractional radii of both components are $$r_1 = 0.217 \pm 0.002,r_2 = 0.233 \pm 0.002andi = 85.5 \pm 0.5.$$ Absolute elements were derived and the effective temperatures are $$T_1 = 11800K,T_2 = 5140K.$$

Notes: Abstract The method of Fourier analysis of the light changes in the frequency-domain has been studied and discussed for 92 light curves of different types of eclipsing binary systems. Geometrical and physical elements of the systems under analysis have been listed and discussed, accordingly the advantages and disadvantages of the method is presented. The results show that the method is suitable for analysis of detached and most of the semi-detached systems, while for contact binaries and β-Lyrae-type stars it has some difficulties. The light curve synthesis method is recommended.

Notes: Abstract The aim of the present paper is to present the analysis of light changes of four β Lyrae eclipsing systems (DO Cas, KR Cyg, V388 Cyg, and SV Cen) using the automated Fourier techniques in the frequency-domain. The applicability of the above method to the β Lyrae system discussed. New physical and geometrical elements of these systems are derived. Their positions in the H-R diagram and mass-luminosity diagram are indicated.

Notes: Abstract Iraq is currently experiencing a praid cultural, scientific, and technical renaissance, and astronomy is a natural focus for the country's pride in the past achievements of the civilization which have flourished in Iraq. The current plans of the Space and Astronomy Research Center (SARC) include building a major observatory to work in the optical, IR and radio region of the spectrum. The core of the optical facility will be a 3.5 m optical telescope, together with 1.25 m telescope designed for efficient performance in the IR. These telescopes will be equipped with instruments for photographic, photometric and spectroscopic observations. A 30 m dish is also being built for millimeter/radio observations. SARC has selected an excellent observing site in the northern mountains of Iraq which has good seeing and clear dark skies. The sites selection was made with the collaboration of several leading astronomers and observatories from various countries.

Notes: Abstract The eclipsing system of W UMa-type TZ Bootis has been examined on the basis of six light curves analyzed by the means of the Fourier techniques. An optimal resulting set of geometric elements for the system is obtained from both minima, through there magnitudes variations during the periods 1967, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1978, and 1980. The intrinsic variability of the system has been discussed in the light of the behaviour of the light curves.
