The synthesis of poly[3-(6-tetrahydropyran-2-yloxyhexyl)-2,5-thienylene] has been performed with a nickel catalyst, obtaining a highly regioregular polymer. The deprotection of the pyranyl function restores the —OH group giving a polymer which is not soluble in the usual organic solvents but soluble in 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, indicating that no crosslinks are present. The protected form was characterised by means of GPC, 1H NMR, FTIR and UV-Vis spectroscopy and was found to give Langmuir-Blodgett multilayered structures.
