    Notizen: The crystallization kinetics of amorphous Sm8Fe85Si2C5 alloy has been investigated. As the alloy is heated to 900 °C, the crystalline phases of the alloy are composed of α-Fe phase and Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx. At the beginning of crystallization the activation energy of the α-Fe phase is about 425 kJ/mol, it remains relatively constant as the crystallized fraction of the α-Fe phase is below 70%, and then it declines with increasing the crystallized fraction. When the crystallized fraction of the Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx is below 50%, the activation energy of crystallization of the phase remains between 518 and 530 kJ/mol, and then decreases with the crystallized fraction. The crystallization behavior of the α-Fe phase and Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx essentially results in the formation of an α-Fe/Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx composite microstructure with a coarse grain size in annealed Sm8Fe85Si2C5 alloy, which is attributed to a difficult nucleation and an easy growth for both the α-Fe phase and Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx in the alloy. Cu and Nb can be used to change the crystallization behavior of the α-Fe phase in the amorphous Sm8Fe85Si2C5 alloy, which is helpful to the formation of the α-Fe/Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx nanocomposite microstructure with a fine grain size for the α-Fe phase in the alloy. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: The effect of pressure on the microstructure of α-Fe/Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx nanocomposite magnets has been studied by annealing amorphous Sm8Fe85Si2C5 alloy under pressures up to 6 GPa at 923 K. The high-pressure experiments were carried out in a belt-type apparatus. Experimental results show that, with increasing pressure from normal pressure to 6 GPa, the grain size of the α-Fe and Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx phases in the α-Fe/Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx nanocomposites decreases, from 30.6 to 6.4 nm for the former and from 28.7 to 5.8 nm for the latter. The volume fraction of Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx increases as pressure increases. The α-Fe/Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx nanocomposite magnets prepared under 4 GPa have a significant increase in both coercivity and remanent magnetization as compared to those prepared under normal pressure. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: We present microstructure and magnetic properties of Sm2(Fe, Si)17Cx/α-Fe nanocomposite magnets prepared under a pressure of 4 GPa at a temperature of 923 K. A high-pressure experiment was carried out in a belt-type pressure apparatus. Analyses of x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy show that the nanocomposite magnets have a grain size of 6–8 nm, which provides a strong exchange coupling between hard and soft magnetic phases. As a result, the magnets have, compared with nanocomposite magnets prepared under normal pressure, a significant increase in both coercivity, from 132 to 500 kA/m, and remanent magnetization, from 0.68 to 0.83Ms. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: In this study, the interface structure of α-Fe/Nd2Fe14B nanocomposite magnets has been investigated by employing both the positron lifetime spectroscopy and the two-detector Doppler broadening measurements of the positron–electron annihilation γ quanta. Positron lifetime studies show that there are two kinds of interface structures in the magnets. One characterized by a positron lifetime of 155 ps is determined to be the interfacial amorphous layer. The other has a slack atomic structure in which structural free volumes, which were detected to be predominantly surrounded by nonmagnetic atoms Nd and B by the Doppler broadening measurements, have a larger size than that of one to two lattice vacancies of Fe. This is believed to weaken the magnetic exchange coupling between α-Fe and Nd2Fe14B grains in the nanocomposites. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: In this study, α-Fe/Nd2Fe14B nanocomposite magnets with strong crystallographic texture were prepared by controlled melt spinning. For a relatively low wheel speed of 10 m/s, the c-axis texture of the Nd2Fe14B crystals is predominantly perpendicular to the plane of the ribbon, but it switches to parallel to the ribbon plane direction at a higher wheel speed of 20 m/s. The magnets show strong magnetic anisotropy between in and out of the ribbon planes. High remanence of 0.74Ms and a large energy product of 24.3 MGOe were observed parallel to the ribbon plane direction in the magnets prepared at a wheel speed of 20 m/s. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Übersicht Das Beul-und Nachbeulverhalten orthotroper Verbund-Rechteckplatten unter Querbelastung und Axialdruck wird mit der Methode der Störungsrechnung die auf die generalisierten von Karmanschen Gleichungen angewandt wird, untersucht. Die Ergebnisse der vorliegenden Arbeit werden mit Versuchsergebnissen und anderen analytischen Lösungen verglichen, wodurch gezeigt wird, daß unter Verwendung der genannten Methode eine bessere Übereinstimmung mit den experimentellen Ergebnissen erzielt wird.
    Notizen: Summary The buckling and postbuckling behavior of simply supported orthotropic composite rectangular plates in uniaxial compression and lateral pressure is studied by a deflection-type perturbation technique applied to the generalized Karman equations. Comparisons of the predictions by the approach with experiments and other analytical results are made and show that agreement between the present theory and experiments is reasonably better.

    Notizen: Abstract We have cloned the junction region of the previously characterized Yunnanese (Aγδβ)0-thalassemia deletion and the normal DNA region surrounding its 3′ breakpoint. The sequence of 1138 bp of the 3′-flanking region and 555 bp of the normal region surrounding the 3′ breakpoint was determined. The 5′ breakpoint of the deletion is positioned between 116 and 117 bp upstream of the Aγ-globin gene, and the 3′ breakpoint at 34 bp downstream of the BglII site that lies ∼12.7 kb upstream of the 3′ deletion breakpoint of Chinese (Aγδβ)0-thalassemia. There is no significant homology between the normal DNAs flanking the 5′ and 3′ breakpoints, except 2-bp (TG) identity and two pairs of short direct repeats at the deletion junction. The 3′ breakpoint is within an L1 family sequence that normally occurs about 66 kb downstream of the β-globin gene in 11p15. This L1 element is partially in reversed orientation at the 5′ side and is therefore, presumably, an inactive element. This type of junction indicates illegitimate DNA breakage and end-joining involving the L1 sequence. Similar to many other deletions in the β-globin locus, the Yunnanese (Aγδβ)0-thalassemia deletion lacks a sequence characteristic of defined recombination factors near the deletion junction, suggesting that chromatin configuration and other locus-specific features are important. Computer-aided analysis revealed that several transcriptional factors could bind to putative motifs present in the 3′-flanking sequence. It is possible that binding features of the distal L1 element are required to generate a suitable chromatin configuration for the recombination event in Yunnanese (Aγδβ)0-thalassemia. This may also be related to the reactivation of the Gγ-globin gene in adults with the Yunnanese (Aγδβ)0-thalassemia mutation.

    Notizen: Abstract A three-dimensional numerical model has been used to assess the effects of vertical stability and wind shear on the nature and form of meso-scale cellular convection (MCC). The model was shown to be capable of simulating a real occasion of MCC before it was used in idealised cases. These cases revealed different regimes in MCC: open cells, longitudinal bands and closed cells/transverse bands. Open cells were favoured by the existence of instability in the surface layer and a lack of wind shear in the Ekman layer. Longitudinal bands were favoured by similar conditions in the surface layer plus wind shear in the Ekman layer. A near-neutral surface layer favoured the occurrence of closed cells/transverse bands. The depth of convection in the longitudinal bands was a function of the stability in both the surface and Ekman layers and of the wind shear in the Ekman layer. The regimes are related to the instability and shear through bulk Richardson numbers in the surface and Ekman layers.
