    Notes: Structural optimization is widely adopted in the design of structures with thedevelopment of computer aided design (CAD) and the development of computer technique recently.By applying the artificial neural network to structural optimization, designers can gain the designscheme of structures more feasibly and easily. In this paper, the genetic algorithm (GA) used in theerror back-propagation (BP) network is applied to get the optimization result of the structuralsystem. And the training pair of BP neural network is obtained from the structural analysis using afinite element program. The case study of 10 member truss structure using GA and BP will behelpful to reduce the cost of structures which is related to weight and the dynamic performance ofoptimization under the lateral load

    Notes: Abstract Exact mathematical analyses are presented for interface crack between dissimilar elastic-plastic materials. The deformation theory of plasticity is used. For two kinds of boundary conditions on crack faces: (1) traction free and (2) frictionless contact, the asymptotic separable solutions of the HRR type with full continuity are obtained, which exist only for special mixity parameterM p. For any assignedM p, the separable solutions of the HRR type which contained weak discontinued line are further obtained. All of our results not only satisfy the continuity of displacements and that of tractions on the interface, but also they are free of oscillatory singularity and interpenetration of crack faces.

    Notes: Abstract This paper presents an asymptotic analysis of the near-tip stress and strain fields of a sharp V-notch in a power law hardening material. First, the asymptotic solutions of the HRR type are obtained for the plane stress problem under symmetric loading. It is found that the angular distribution function of the radial stress σ presents rapid variation with the polar angle if the notch angle β is smaller than a critical notch angle; otherwise, there is no such phenomena. Secondly, the asymptotic solutions are developed for antisymmetric loading in the cases of plane strain and plane stress. The accurate calculation results and the detailed comparisons are given as well. All results show that the singular exponent s is changeable for various combinations of loading condition and plane problem.

    Notes: Abstract The fracture behavior of ferritic steel in the transition regime is controlled by the competition between ductile tearing and cleavage. Many test specimens that failed by catastrophic cleavage showed significant amounts of ductile tearing prior to cleavage fracture. The transition from ductile tearing to cleavage has been attributed to the increase in constraint and sampling volume associated with ductile crack growth. This work examines the role of dynamic ductile crack growth on the fracture mode transition by way of a cell model of the material. The cell model incorporates the effects of stress triaxiality and strain rate on material failure characteristics of hole growth and coalescence. Loading rate and microstructure effects on the stress fields that evolve with rapid (ductile) crack growth are systematically studied. The stress fields are employed to compute the Weibull stress which provides probability estimates for the susceptibility to cleavage fracture. A center-cracked panel subjected to remote tension is the model problem under study. The computational model uses an elastic-viscoplastic constitutive relation which incorporates enhanced strain rate hardening at high strain rates. Adiabatic heating due to plastic dissipation and the resulting thermal softening are also accounted for. Under dynamically high loading rate, our model shows the crack speed achieves its peak value soon after crack initiation and quickly falls off to slower speeds with further crack growth. Remarkably, the Weibull stress follows a similar pattern which suggests that the transition to the cleavage fracture is most likely to occur, if at all, at the peak speed of ductile crack growth.     Notes: Abstract The higher-order asymptotic solution of a quasi-static steadily propagating mode-I crack under the plane strain condition in an elastic perfectly-plastic compressible material is studied. In order to statisfy the higher-order compatibility equation for the rate of deformation in the centered fan sector, the stress near the crack tip is expanded asymptotically as an irregular logarithmic power series. The higher order terms near the crack tip were successfully derived. These higher order solutions are distinctly different from those for a stationary crack. The present solution for a growing crack is a one-parameter near-tip field based on a characteristic length A, through which the influence of loading and crack geometry enter into the near-tip field. This feature is substantiated by the numerical solution obtained by A.G. Varias and C.F. Shih. Comparisons between the analytic solution and the numerical results are presented.

    Description: The BIG Data Center at Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences provides freely open access to a suite of database resources in support of worldwide research activities in both academia and industry. With the vast amounts of omics data generated at ever-greater scales and rates, the BIG Data Center is continually expanding, updating and enriching its core database resources through big-data integration and value-added curation, including BioCode (a repository archiving bioinformatics tool codes), BioProject (a biological project library), BioSample (a biological sample library), Genome Sequence Archive (GSA, a data repository for archiving raw sequence reads), Genome Warehouse (GWH, a centralized resource housing genome-scale data), Genome Variation Map (GVM, a public repository of genome variations), Gene Expression Nebulas (GEN, a database of gene expression profiles based on RNA-Seq data), Methylation Bank (MethBank, an integrated databank of DNA methylomes), and Science Wikis (a series of biological knowledge wikis for community annotations).     Description: Pharmaceuticals in drinking water sources have raised significant concerns due to their persistent input and potential human health risks. The seasonal occurrence of 25 pharmaceuticals including 23 antibiotics, paracetamol (PAR), and carbamazepine (CMZ) in Taihu Lake was investigated; meanwhile, the distribution and removal of these pharmaceuticals in two drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) and a constructed wetland were evaluated. A high detection frequency (〉70%) in the Taihu Lake was observed for nearly all the 25 pharmaceutics. Chlortetracycline (234.7 ng L−1), chloramphenicol (27.1 ng L−1), erythromycin (72.6 ng L−1), PAR (71.7 ng L−1), and CMZP (23.6 ng L−1) are compounds with both a high detection frequency (100%) and the highest concentrations, suggesting their wide use in the Taihu Basin. Higher concentrations of chloramphenicols, macrolides, PAR, and CMZP were observed in dry season than in wet season, probably due to the low flow conditions of the lake in winter and the properties of pharmaceuticals. The overall contamination levels of antibiotic pharmaceutics (0.2–74.9 ng L−1) in the Taihu Lake were lower than or comparable to those reported worldwide. However, for nonantibiotic pharmaceutics, PAR (45.0 ng L−1) and CMZP (14.5 ng L−1), significantly higher concentrations were observed in the Taihu Lake than at a global scale. High detection frequencies of 25 pharmaceuticals were observed in both the two DWTPs (100%) and the wetland (〉60%) except for florfenicol and sulfapyridine. The removal efficacies of the studied pharmaceuticals in DWTP B with advanced treatment processes including ozonation and granular activated carbon filtration (16.7–100%) were superior to DWTP A with conventional treatment processes (2.9–100%), except for sulfonamides. Wetland C with the constructed root channel technology was efficient (24.2–100%) for removing most pharmaceuticals. This work suggests that the application of cost-effective technologies such as constructed wetlands should be considered as an efficient alternative for removing pharmaceuticals from water supply sources.
