Description: The BIG Data Center at Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences provides freely open access to a suite of database resources in support of worldwide research activities in both academia and industry. With the vast amounts of omics data generated at ever-greater scales and rates, the BIG Data Center is continually expanding, updating and enriching its core database resources through big-data integration and value-added curation, including BioCode (a repository archiving bioinformatics tool codes), BioProject (a biological project library), BioSample (a biological sample library), Genome Sequence Archive (GSA, a data repository for archiving raw sequence reads), Genome Warehouse (GWH, a centralized resource housing genome-scale data), Genome Variation Map (GVM, a public repository of genome variations), Gene Expression Nebulas (GEN, a database of gene expression profiles based on RNA-Seq data), Methylation Bank (MethBank, an integrated databank of DNA methylomes), and Science Wikis (a series of biological knowledge wikis for community annotations). In addition, three featured web services are provided, viz., BIG Search (search as a service; a scalable inter-domain text search engine), BIG SSO (single sign-on as a service; a user access control system to gain access to multiple independent systems with a single ID and password) and Gsub (submission as a service; a unified submission service for all relevant resources). All of these resources are publicly accessible through the home page of the BIG Data Center at http://bigd.big.ac.cn.

Notes: Hot gas filtration and purification is widely applied in many industrial fields, such as inpower generation industry, chemical and petrochemical industry, metallurgical industry, ceramicand glass industry, environmental protection industry, etc. Gas filtration at high temperature fromindustrial processes offers various advantages such as increasing process efficiency, improving heatrecovery and materials resource recovery, protection of downstream plant equipment, etc. At thesame time, it is an advanced environment protection technology. This paper describes a newlydeveloped metallic filter element - sintered Fe3Al intermetallics. The manufacturing process ofsintered Fe3Al metallic powder and the mechanical and filtration characteristics of this filterelement were investigated. In this work, the mechanism of the morphological and phase constituentchanges of the Fe3Al powder during sintering were studied. The newly developed filter elementswere found to have excellent corrosion resistance, good thermal resistance, high strength and highfiltration efficiency. Based on these results, the potential application of the sintered Fe3Al filterelements in industrial hot gas filtration are discussed

Notes: PbZr0.56Ti0.44O3 (PZT) epitaxial ferroelectric thin films on a LaAlO3 (100) substrate, covered by a metallic oxide electrode La0.5Sr0.5CoO3 (LSCO) are demonstrated in this work. The films are fabricated by the sol–gel method and effort was focused on thermal processing to obtain the desired epitaxial heterostructure. The dielectric and ferroelectric properties of PZT thin films were measured and it was found that they are as good as in the films deposited by other thin-film methods. The dielectric constant and the dissipation factor of the PZT films are, respectively, about 500 and 0.06 below 20 kHz. The remanent polarization Pr is about 27 μC/cm2 and the coercive field Ec is about 50 kV/cm. It was found that the ferroelectric properties were significantly influenced by the microstructure of the PZT layers. The present study also showed that the fatigue characteristics of the epitaxial heterostructure with LSCO electrodes under a reversed electrical field are far superior to those obtained with a polycrystalline ferroelectric layer on Pt bottom electrodes. A low leakage current, about 3 μA/cm2 at 0.5 MV/cm, was obtained for these epitaxial films. In addition, the optical transmittance spectrum of PZT thin films was also measured and the conduction mechanism is discussed.© 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: A sol-gel spin-coating procedure was established to prepare La0.5Sr0.5CoO3/ PbZr0.56Ti0.44O3/La0.5Sr0.5CoO3 multilayer structure on SrTiO3(100) and LaAlO3(100) substrates. The films were characterized by means of x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and electrical measurements. The results showed the advantages of the sol-gel processing in compositional control as well as in oriented growth of films. A high remnant polarization was obtained in the films prepared with this procedure. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract Previous studies have shown the pathogenic effects of grains cultivated in the endemic areas of Keshan disease and selenium is effective in the prevention of this disease. In this study, liver damages induced by feeding grains from an endemic area (endemic diet), and the effects of selenium and α-tocopherol supplement were examined. After 3 months on the endemic diet, the amounts of serum enzymes were significantly increased when compared to controls (animals receiving diet from a non-endemic area). Liver enzymes (alkaline phosphatase and choline esterase) were also found to be altered in the serum, further suggesting liver damages in animals on an endemic diet. Supplement of the endemic diet with selenium or α-tocopherol reversed the changes in serum enzymes. Increase in lipid peroxidation in the liver of animals on the endemic diet was observed when compared to that in control animals. Selenium and α-tocopherol supplements prevented the increase in lipid peroxidation in the liver by the endemic diet. Semi-quantitative histochemical analysis of glutamate dehydrogenase and succinate dehydrogenase in liver tissue showed that the livers of animals on an endemic diet were more sensitive to ischemic damagesin vitro. Supplementation of the endemic diet with either selenium or α-tocopherol reduced the sensitivity to ischemic damages. The results suggest that increased lipid peroxidation in the liver of rats on an endemic diet may be responsible for liver damages and elevation of serum enzymes. Restoration of glutathione peroxidase activity by selenium supplement or an increase in the content of α-tocopherol in the liver can prevent lipid peroxidation in animals on an endemic diet and thus provide the protective effects against liver damages.

Notes: Summary CpTiCl2(OPri) was a very active catalyst for syndiotactic polymerization of styrene when activated with methyl aluminoxane (MAO). The catalyst activity and syndiospecificity of CpTiCl2(OPri)/MAO were about 107 g PS / mol Ti·mol S·h and about 95% respectively, both higher than those of CpTiCl3 / MAO.

Notes: Abstract The dispersion characteristics of the dominant mode in shielded microstrip lines on magnetized ferrite and anisotropic dielectric substrates have been obtained. The solution is obtained by applying the transverse equivalent transmission line in the spectral domain and Galerkin's method. Numerical results for the frequency-dependent propagation constants are presented which could be used in designing directional couplers and isolators.

Description: Based on the characteristics of oceanic circulation in a monsoon‐dominated ocean, a new framework of annual ventilation, including subduction and obduction, is postulated and applied to the North Indian Ocean based on both SODA and GODAS. It is revealed that besides the winter season, ventilation can also occur in summer. Considering the horizontal resolution, SODA results are mainly discussed, with GODAS results given for validity of key conclusions. The annual subduction/obduction rate in the North Indian Ocean based on SODA is estimated at 10.2 Sv/11 Sv averaged from 1960 to 2009, with 4.2 Sv/6.2 Sv occurring during winter monsoon period and 6 Sv/4.8 Sv during summer monsoon period, respectively. Both subduction and obduction feature great interannual variability, with the vertical pumping term of decisive importance. Furthermore, the concepts of the penetration depth through subduction and the origin depth through obduction are postulated. The penetration depth in the Arabian Sea is on the order of 50 to 200 m; the origin depth through obduction in the Arabian Sea is deeper than that in the Bay of Bengal, with the deepest on the order of 200 to 250 m along the western boundary.
