Notes: Abstract This paper is concerned with the existence of temporary equilibria of migration with an overlapping generation structure and analyzes some of its properties. In the first part of the paper sufficient conditions for the existence of a temporary equilibrium of migration (in a given period) are given. In the second part some interesting properties of migration equilibria are analyzed. In particular the effects of differing degrees of information of the individuals on migration equilibria are investigated. Furthermore, it is shown that incomplete information alone suffices to induce migration flows even between countries that can be regarded as “identical” from an economic point of view.

Notes: Abstract The decision problem of the guest worker as a target saver is considered. He plans to accumulate capital in the host country for investment in the home country after return migration. As the worker is supposed to be incompletely informed about the economic variables in the host country he might prolong his stay unexpectedly provided the economic conditions in the host country are unfavourable. Explicit conditions for the economic variables are given such that temporary migration turns into permanent migration.

Description / Table of Contents: Poly(vinyl alcohol) containing synthetic pulp was used for the introduction of the following reactive groups: isothiocyanato-, imidocarbonate-, and dichloro-s-triazinyl group. Furthermore mixed disulfides with 2-thiopyridine as reactive component could be synthesized. The glutardialdehyde method was performed with unmodified synthetic pulp as well as with amino groups containing derivatives of this polymer. All here discussed reactive carriers allowed to immobilize enzymers. Enzymes like trypsin, esterase (from Bacillus subtilis), glucose oxidase, urease, catalase, hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase were used. The products of the immobilization reactions were characterized.

Description / Table of Contents: On the basis of poly(vinyl alcohol) various reactive carriers for the immobilization of enzymes were synthesized. Starting as well from hydrolyzed beads of crosslinked poly(vinylacetate), as from tubes of poly(vinyl acetate-co-ethylene) which have been coated with poly(vinyl alcohol) resp. from poly(vinyl alcohol) containing synthetic pulp reactive carriers were synthesized by reaction with 2-(3-aminophenyl)-1,3-dioxolane followed by diazotization. Furthermore reactive isothiocyanato groups as well as mixed polymeric disulfides with 2-thiopyridine groups were introduced into gels of poly(vinyl alcohol) which were crosslinked with terephthalaldehyde. The immobilization of enzymes was carried out with papain, trypsin, glucose oxidase, and catalase. The properties of the immobilized enzymes were investigated.

Description / Table of Contents: Poly(vinyl alcohol) was crosslinked with terephthalaldehyde and was reacted with 2,4,6-trichloro-s-triazine, resp. 4-nitrobenzyl chloride, resp. 2-(3-aminophenyl)-1,3-dioxolane. Subsequent reactions gave reactive carriers, which could be used to obtain active immobilized enzymes with papain, trypsin, and glucose oxidase. The binding ability of the last carrier for the enzymes was investigated as a function of the offered amount of the enzyme during the immobilization. In the case of papain also the dependence of the content of reactive groups on the binding ability was investigate. Some properties of the immobilized hydrolases as activity, pH-activity profile, KM(app.)-values, storage- and thermostability, and stability after repeated application were determined.
