Abstract A technique has been developed and assessed for automatic monitoring of crack propagation along a glue line using a continuous, electrically conductive strip. The technique is suitable for non-conductive substrates and has been shown to have good accuracy and reliability under a wide range of ambient relative humidity, up to 95%. Long-term behaviour of the conductive strip has been tested, and negligible signs of decreased accuracy on environmental ageing have been detected.
