Description:
A calcitonin receptor complementary DNA (cDNA) was cloned by expression of a cDNA library from a porcine kidney epithelial cell line in COS cells. The 482-amino acid receptor has high affinity for salmon calcitonin (dissociation constant Kd approximately 6 nM) and is functionally coupled to increases in intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). The receptor shows no sequence similarity to other reported G protein-coupled receptors but is homologous to the parathyroid hormone-parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTH-PTHrP) receptor, indicating that the receptors for these hormones, which regulate calcium homeostasis, represent a new family of G protein-coupled receptors.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Lin, H Y -- Harris, T L -- Flannery, M S -- Aruffo, A -- Kaji, E H -- Gorn, A -- Kolakowski, L F Jr -- Lodish, H F -- Goldring, S R -- AM 03564/AM/NIADDK NIH HHS/ -- HL-41484/HL/NHLBI NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1991 Nov 15;254(5034):1022-4.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, Cambridge, MA 02142.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1658940" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉
