Notes: Novel isomeric polyamideimides were synthesized by reacting the diacid chloride of 2-(4-carboxy phenyl)-1,3-dioxoisoindoline-5-carboxylic acid and o-, m-, and p-phenylenediamine at 30-70°C using polar solvents. The reactivity of the isomeric amines in the polycondensation reaction was studied. The isomeric effects on the physical, chemical, thermal, and electrical properties of the polymers were also studied. The polymers were found to be soluble in highly polar solvents such as DMF, DMAC, NMP, DMSO, m-cresol, etc. Thermal analysis indicated that polymers were thermostable and that their thermal stability follows the order para 〉 meta 〉 ortho. X-ray diffraction data revealed that para polymer is crystalline in nature. Dielectric properties with the variation of frequency at room temperature indicated that the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the polymers follow the order ortho 〉 meta 〉 para.

Notes: Polyamideimides were prepared either directly from N-(p-carboxyphenyl)trimellitimide and p,p′-di(aminocyclohexy)methane (PACM-20) by low temperature (〈5°C) polycondensation in presence of thionyl chloride or by reacting the diacid chloride of N-(p-carboxyphenyl)trimellitimide and PACM-20 at 30-70°C. The polymers were characterized by nitrogen analysis and IR spectra. The polymers are soluble in highly polar solvents such as DMF, DMAC, NMP, and m-cresol. The solubility parameter was calculated from the Small's group contribution, which agrees well with the experimental value. The solution viscosity of the polymer is fairly stable against ageing. The Tg of the polymer calculated from the DTA curve is 270°C or even higher. Thermal analyses indicated that the polymer is fairly stable and only 5-6% weight loss occurs up to 350°C or 380°C. Dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and electrical conductivity of the polymer were also studied.

The solution, thermal, electrical and a few other properties of the polymer were studied. The polymer was found to be soluble in the highly polar solvents. The polymer solution was relatively stable. Thermogravimetric data revealed that the polymer underwent 12% weight loss at 375 °C in air. The dielectric constant of the polymer at 30 °C was found to be 5.45 at 1 kHz. X-ray diffraction data revealed that the polymer is crystalline in nature.

Notes: A new polyesterimide containg CC-double bonds was prepared by reacting an unsaturated diacid chloride containing a cyclic imido group with ethylene glycol at low temperature. The solubility, thermal, electrical and cross-linking properties of the polymer were studied. The polymer was found to be thermostable and soluble in highly polar solvents. X-ray diffraction data revealed that the polymer is crystalline. The unsaturation sites of the polymer chain could be exploited for crosslinking reactions. The swelling behavior of the crosslinked polymer was studied as well as the thermal and electrical properties. The overall thermal stability of the crosslinked polymer was found to be higher than that of the uncrosslinked polymer.

Description / Table of Contents: Es wurden einige ungesättigte Polyamide durch mit Thionylchlorid aktivierte Niedertemperatur-Polykondensation und Lösungspolymerisation von Fumar-, Adipin-, Isophthal- und Terephthalsäure oder ihrer Disäurechloridderivate mit 1,5-Bis-(3-aminophenyl)penta-1,4-dien-3-on hergestellt.
Notes: A few unsaturated polyamides were prepared by thionyl chloride activated low temperature polycondensation and solution polymerization of fumaric, adipic, isophthalic, and terephthalic acid or their diacid chloride derivatives with 1,5-bis-(3-aminophenyl)-1,4-pentadiene-3-one. The polymers were characterized by nitrogen analysis and IR spectroscopy. The solution, thermal, and electrical properties of the polymers were studied. The polymers were found to be soluble in polar solvents. The solubility parameter of the polymers were calculated from Small's group contributions which agreed well with the experimental values. The polymers readily underwent crosslinking reaction when heated alone or preferably in the presence of a suitable free radical catalyst. The crosslinked polymers were found to be insoluble in polar solvents and possessed higher thermal stability compared with the virgin polymers. The swelling behaviour of the polymers were studied in detail and the molecular weight between two crosslinked junctions were also found out. X-ray diffraction and dielectric properties of the crosslinked polymers were also reported.

Notes: Polycondensation of the diacid chloride of 2-(3-carboxy vinyl)phenyl-1,3-dioxoisoindoline-5-carboxylic acid with m-phenylenediamine and the diacid chloride of 2-(4-carboxy phenyl)-1,3-dioxoisoindoline-5-carboxylic acid with 1,5-bis(3-aminophenyl)1,4-pentadien-3-one was carried out in polar solvents to produce new unsaturated polyamide-imides. The solution and the thermal, electrical, and a few other properties of the polymers were studies. The polymers were soluble in highly polar solvents. The solubility parameter of the polymers was calculated from the Small's group contribution. The polymers were fairly thermostable and underwent crosslinking creaction when heated, preferably in the presence of a suitable catalyst. The crosslinked polymers were in soluble even in highly polar solvents and possessed higher thermal stability. The swelling behavior of the polymers was studied and the molecular weight between two consecutive crosslinks was determined. X-ray diffraction and the dielectric properties of the polymers and their crosslinked products were also studied.
