    Description: A magnetization model of nanocrystalline materials incorporating intragrain anisotropies, intergrain interactions, and texture effects has been extended to include the thermal fluctuations. The method relies on the stochastic Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert theory of magnetization dynamics and permits to study the magnetic properties of nanocrystalline materials at arbitrary temperature below the Currie temperature. The model has been used to determine the intergrain exchange constant and grain boundary anisotropy constant of nanocrystalline Ni at 100 K and 298 K. It is found that the thermal fluctuations suppress the strength of the intergrain exchange coupling and also reduce the grain boundary anisotropy. In comparison with its value at 2 K, the interparticle exchange constant decreases by 16% and 42% and the grain boundary anisotropy constant decreases by 28% and 40% at 100 K and 298 K, respectively. An application of the model to study the grain size-dependent magnetization indicates that when the thermal activation energy is comparable to the free energy of grains, the decrease in the grain size leads to the decrease in the magnetic permeability and saturation magnetization. The mechanism by which the grain size influences the magnetic properties of nc–Ni is discussed.

    Description: The three-dimensional organization of a genome plays a critical role in regulating gene expression, yet little is known about the machinery and mechanisms that determine higher-order chromosome structure. Here we perform genome-wide chromosome conformation capture analysis, fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), and RNA-seq to obtain comprehensive three-dimensional (3D) maps of the Caenorhabditis elegans genome and to dissect X chromosome dosage compensation, which balances gene expression between XX hermaphrodites and XO males. The dosage compensation complex (DCC), a condensin complex, binds to both hermaphrodite X chromosomes via sequence-specific recruitment elements on X (rex sites) to reduce chromosome-wide gene expression by half. Most DCC condensin subunits also act in other condensin complexes to control the compaction and resolution of all mitotic and meiotic chromosomes. By comparing chromosome structure in wild-type and DCC-defective embryos, we show that the DCC remodels hermaphrodite X chromosomes into a sex-specific spatial conformation distinct from autosomes. Dosage-compensated X chromosomes consist of self-interacting domains ( approximately 1 Mb) resembling mammalian topologically associating domains (TADs). TADs on X chromosomes have stronger boundaries and more regular spacing than on autosomes. Many TAD boundaries on X chromosomes coincide with the highest-affinity rex sites and become diminished or lost in DCC-defective mutants, thereby converting the topology of X to a conformation resembling autosomes. rex sites engage in DCC-dependent long-range interactions, with the most frequent interactions occurring between rex sites at DCC-dependent TAD boundaries. These results imply that the DCC reshapes the topology of X chromosomes by forming new TAD boundaries and reinforcing weak boundaries through interactions between its highest-affinity binding sites. As this model predicts, deletion of an endogenous rex site at a DCC-dependent TAD boundary using CRISPR/Cas9 greatly diminished the boundary.     Description: A theoretical model incorporating the material texture has been developed to simulate the magnetic properties of nanocrystalline materials at low temperatures where the effect of thermal energy on magnetization is neglected. The method is based on Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) theory and it describes the magnetization dynamics of individual grains in the effective field. The modified LLG equation incorporates the intrinsic fields from the intragrain magnetocrystalline and grain boundary anisotropies and the interacting fields from intergrain dipolar and exchange couplings between the neighbouring grains. The model is applied to study magnetic properties of textured nanocrystalline Ni samples at 2K and is capable to reproduce closely the hysteresis loop behaviour at different orientations of applied magnetic field. Nanocrystalline Ni shows the grain boundary anisotropy constant K 1 s = − 6.0 × 10 4 J / m 3 and the intergrain exchange coupling denoted by the effective exchange constant A p  = 2.16 × 10 –11  J/m. Analytical expressions to estimate the intergrain exchange energy density and the effective exchange constant have been formulated.

    Description: 〈span〉〈div〉ABSTRACT〈/div〉In this paper, high-resolution three-dimensional seismic data are used to interpret a transpressional salt tectonic structure in the Yingxiongling area, Qaidam Basin, China. The geometries of the salt structure and the Shizigou fault system that intersects it are precisely depicted. The Shizigou fault system is composed of suprasalt and subsalt components. The suprasalt component is a Y-shaped reverse fault, and the subsalt component is a complex flower structure. In previous studies, suprasalt and subsalt components were interpreted as two independent fault systems. This paper proposes instead that the suprasalt and subsalt faults are kinematically related and decoupled across the salt layer.〈/span〉

    Description: The oxygen mass transfer characteristics in a Micro-Pressure Inner-Loop bioreactor (MPR) were studied by clean water oxygenation experiment, the results show that when the aeration adopt by 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 m 3 ·h - 1, respectively, the oxygen mass transfer coefficient KLa(20) in the reactor increases with the increase of the aeration. K La(20) shows a good linear correlation with the aeration. The rate is 0.2128 h·m - 3·min - 1 and the correlation coefficient R=0.993. However, the trend of E O2 increases first and then decreases with the increase of aeration. When the aeration increased to 0.4 m 3 ·h - 1, the E O2 reaches the maximum. If aeration increases constantly, E O2 begin to decrease excessive aeration may lead to an increase in energy waste during reactor operation.

    Description: In order to reveal the spatial difference of the bacterial community structure in the Micro-pressure Air-lift Loop Reactor, the activated sludge bacterial at five different representative sites in the reactor were studied by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). The results of DGGE showed that the difference of environmental conditions (such as substrate concentration, dissolved oxygen and PH, etc.) resulted in different diversity and similarity of microbial flora in different spatial locations. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index of the total bacterial samples from five sludge samples varied from 0.92 to 1.28, the biodiversity index was the smallest at point 5, and the biodiversity index was the highest at point 2. The similarity of the flora between the point 2, 3 and 4 was 80% or more, respectively.
