Abstract The effect of heat treatment on the resistance of stainless steels Kh17N2 and Kh17N5M3 to corrosion cracking in NaCl solutions at room and elevated temperatures was studied, the optimum tempering temperatures were determined and it was shown that the resistance of steel Kh17N2 to corrosion cracking after the optimum heat treatment is markedly higher than that of steel Kh17N5M3. Tests results were analyzed taking into account the effect of the testing method on corrosion cracking.
