Summary 1. Quench-hardened ShKh 15 steels, refined by electroslag and vacuum-are melting, have approximately the same corrosion resistance, which is only slightly better than that of steel made by conventional methods. 2. The fatigue strength of ShKh 15 steel sharply decreases in a corrosive medium (3% NaCl solution). Under these conditions the endurance limit of steel refined by electroslag melting is slightly higher than that of other types. 3. The more prolonged the action of the corrosive medium, the smaller becomes the difference in the fatigue strength of the various modifications of the steel studied.
