Abstract 19 cores of the stratiform Meggen ore body (pyrite-sphalerite-ore) and one section underground — the so-called standard section — have been examined macro-and microscopically. A classification into 4 structural ore types was found (see Fig. 13). Furthermore 10 of these cores and the standard section have been investigated geochemically. From the crude ore the main elements Fe, S, Zn, Pb and the trace elements Ba, Sb, Cu, Mn have been analysed. In the pyrite concentrate — flotated at the laboratory — the content of Co, Ni, As and pyrite bounded Mn were measured. The analytical datas were interpreted by means of multivariate statistical methods. The following results were found: A lateral zoning of the ore body in three groups (central, intermedium, marginal) is mainly caused by the difference in S-, Sb-, Fe-, Zn- and As-contents. Of greatest importance for the zoning is also the amount of waste within the ore. On the other hand the studied elements have no stratigraphical, vertical dependence. Between macroscopic structures and chemical compound no correlation seems to exist. Correlations between several elements can be understood geologically.
