Abstract The behaviour of the system hexachlororhenate (IV) — iodo-nitro-tetrazolium chloride — dichloroethane-water has been investigated with regard to its suitability for the extraction of rhenium. The ion-associate formed is stable in aqueous medium and the extraction can be carried out in the pH-range 2 to 7. Only few ions (MoVI, ClO 4 − , CNS−, Di−) have been found to interfere.
